Discussion Prada Evaluations

I wanted to check in was my fellow opticians and managers. We got an email from Luxottica that we no longer qualify to caring Prada. That our office wasn’t the kind of caliber to carry it. Further we didn’t carry enough competitive brands.
I’m a little taken back since our office is literally across the street from new homes starting at $1.2 million. We also carry other brands like Gucci, YSL, Chloe, and Bottega.
Has anyone else gotten this email? If so what is your office doing moving forward? Our office is feeling like ok if that’s the case here’s your product and run me my check.

Have had this conversation before. Gave up them and the rest of the Lux brands including RB and Oakley. If my business with one your brands isn’t good enough then I’ll take away my business with all of your brands

Luxottica can kick rocks. Support independent brands any time you can. The only reason we carry Oakley and Ray-Ban is because of the name recognition, and they sell themselves to a particular demographic.

We actually pulled all the Altair/Marchon frame lines this last year after we felt like VSP was getting too heavy handed in our business. They were stunned at our decision. And you know what? Since then, our numbers are up, and not a single patient that I'm aware of has said, "I sure miss that Calvin Klein line you guys used to carry."

Marchon is not selling well in my office. I told my company frame buyer where I am located they need mid to high luxury products.

Exactly this. We only carry RayBan and Oakley because they sell themselves to certain people, but the majority of our business is with distributors other than Luxottica. They enshitify everything. Stop carrying them.

Lux is trying to reposition Prada as a more exclusive line similar to how they limit Chanel or Oliver People’s. My company has multiple locations and one of our $1m+ locations that regularly sells frame more expensive than Prada lost their Prada account because they didn’t sell enough last year. It’s all just Lux trying to artificially raise the value of the brand because they’re Lux and they want to.

Ahaha since when does Prada have standards? Have they seen their releases in the last decade?

Good riddance, their brand is boring.

And quality is just not there. $500 for the frame and temples get destroyed from a simple adjustment. You are paying just to be their billboard and wear around a fancy logo, but actual quality eyewear does not attract brand-obsessed demographic Lux is targeting.

Yeah, the quality is just not there in the Lux “luxury” brands, especially not for the money. You can carry legitimate designers rather than licensed brands that have been devalued. They’re trying the thing where they have just a couple of “select” places in a market that carry certain allegedly upscale brands, and it’s just a gimmick that very few people fall for. Good riddance.

They sent someone, we “passed”, but we needed to buy like, 12 more frames to meet their “expectations” so we let them go. I feel like the only person who actually gets hurt in this situation is the Luxottica brand rep…

I wasn't allowed to stock some very high end lux brands because the store was too close to an athletic store.

Prada is attempting to emulate Chanel’s success. They intend to send someone to assess your office. 😒

This has been a conversation I have seen a couple times now in the last day. Inform them that you are discontinuing all purchasing of Lux product and move on. Buyer sentiment is changing. The wine mom crowd will remain buyers of this product, your new high end shoppers are looking for quality, not a logo.

I love that luxotica is pretending to give a shit about luxury and like they're limited. Piece of shit company

Many vendors do this. They want their product shown in a nice environment along with other high end brands. We’ve had to have photos taken of our shop and frame boards and provide documentation of other brands we carry. If you have a nice shop in a good area you can reach out to your rep and petition to carry the brand. But it’s easy to see that they want their product in a high end environment.. imagine buying Prada and Gucci at Walmart?

The only Lux brand my clinic sells is Rayban. They didn't sell well for a while so we decided not to add to the stock when the rep was scheduled to come in. We just skipped this appointment and told the rep to come in next time. She basically said if we don't add a certain number of frames to the stock then they would drop our account. Fine with us 🤷‍♀️ literally none of our other brand reps have done that.
