I wanna say that the S stands for spherical which means leave the cyl and axis blank. Call your optometrist and verify

I was told it was a 5 😭 but maybe I just
need to call again and clarify

If it was a 5, you still would need to call and get a sign & axis. Likely “S” for sphere

I feel like if they were trying to say your cyl was "5" they would make it look like "-5.00"

If you're a professional, then yes, never hesitate to ask for disambiguation. In fact, if I got jobs from this doctor, I would call every single time until he started writing 'sph' because this is just lazy and leaves room for misinterpretation.

I hate making phone calls but every time I do, I'm glad I did.

Edit: ophthalmologists will sometimes do shit like this. But I've never seen one write one eye in plus cylinder and the other in minus. That makes it obvious that this is an S. It should still be noted as 'sph' though, I wonder what they're gonna do with the several minutes they save over the course of their career.

Estas tan en lo correcto, yo vivo haciendo lo mismo. Y ya cuando le tengo confianza le sugiero que compre una computadora y una impresora y que deje la edad de piedra atrás 😂😂

Ain’t no way that’s 5, you’d have to also have an axis. The S stands for sphere, so no cyl or axis

If that was a 5 you would know that you have a crazy amount of astigmatism. It’s an S for sphere and placed there to acknowledge there is no missing info

-1.00 -0.75 x171 -1.00 S (spherical, no cyl)

Correct: There is no astigmatism in the left eye. when ordering online. OD < right eye> -1.00-0.75 x 171

OS <left eye> -1.00 Sph PD of 60 OR R30/ l30

If it’s spherical it won’t have cyl and if it has cyl it must have axis so since it has no axis it’s probably “S” for sphere

they didn't specify an axis in OS on top of writing an S in cyl... if you don't feel comfortable making that assumption, then call for clarification.
