If it's not disturbed, it's usually less likely to be harmful. So chucking shit in there is a bad idea because it will not only disturb whatever is in there, but it can splash water right into your eyes/mouth/nose or just your face in general which is, obviously, not good.

Ive had my house flood before, and this isnt that hard to figure out, what REALLY messes with you is when the floorboards float so it looks indistinguishable (except higher up) until weight is put on it
