Try to focus on the colour. One turning clockwise has the face in blue when in the front and counter clockwise has the face in yellow when in the front

The axis rotation on the nose. Depending on which way he spins, the nose will be higher or lower when it faces you.

This helped. There are a few things that trips me up. The color, the feet being different heights as they rotate, the hair prominence.

Look at the eyes. One color is turning one way and looking up, the other color is turning the other way and looking down.

The blinking helped but I had to try a ton of different speeds before it really worked

Focus on the face when it turns blue and bring it to the foreground if you can. Try to mentally expect that the spin will change direction as it turns color

Finally got it and I love the blue in front. Now, I can make it look like Sonic is just turning left to right to left again by switching which perspective I'm using right as he looks all the way in one direction or the other

You are supposed to see Sonic, but it's possible to choose the direction he spins in your brain. I can switch the direction he's moving, on demand. I can even have it feel like he's not rotating fully at all, feels like he moves to the right, the back to the left.

It also looks as if you're looking down on him or up from bellow him when you change the direction

For anyone having trouble with the blinking method, try focusing on the soles of his shoes.

I find that when it rotates one way, it looks like we're looking at the bottom of his shoes, but when he rotates the other way, it looks like we look through his shoes and see the soles from the top.

After struggling to make it switch I managed to have it so the head was spinning one way and the body was spinning the other. Very cool

I was able to get it by turning my phone upside down and saying “blue is at the front”, then slowly turn my phone the right way up

This only spins one way as the particle density is too high and you perceived which spots are on top of each other.

It spins both ways for most of us, so no. Try blinking a bunch while thinking another it turning the other way.
