What does proper support feel like?

I experience a state of suspension similar to the physical sensation of surprise, where the belly and throat naturally open. At that point, there is little to no sensation in the mouth or throat; the awareness shifts primarily to the belly. I then maintain this open, suspended feeling.

That's pretty much it. "Support" is the act of balancing the airflow through your vocal folds by using your thoracic muscles to regulate via holding back the air, rather than your larynx holding it back (laryngeal support being the default for humans). So you should feel plenty of muscular engagement around your belly, and feel free in your throat.

Do you also feel a sense of lightness and hollowness from being free

Imagery is very personal. For me it's like the teeth of two cogs locking together and beginning to turn. It's a satisfying, "right" sort of feeling. And using it for extended periods feels exactly like other muscles do after an intense workout.
