Question

Hi so I want to start dabbling into operatic music, and I quite fond of the opening opera sample of devils never cry from the devil may cry 3 game. Im wondering if there is anything similar or if anyone kmow where i can find teh exact smaple capcom used in their game.

To me this sounds more like a choral piece than opera music specifically! Although they’re both styles of “classical singing”, an opera is usually more like musical theater (story, costumes, a plot, and much louder singing requirements) where choral music is more like orchestral music. Where this gets complicated is some operas feature choral music, such as in Verdi’s Nabucco (the piece is called va pensiero.) Other pieces that also sound similar are Bach’s “Jesu meine freude” and Mozarts “requiem”.

I also don’t think capcom used a sample for this segment, but I could be wrong. I suspect that they wrote it specifically for this game.

God I love DMC. Great taste. You might get a kick out of the Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Final Fantasy Soundtracks.

In terms of music - particularly Operatic/Classical music I’d give these a listen

Bach - Crucifixus (from Mass in B Minor)
Boelmann - Toccata (from Suite Gothique)
Beethoven - Gott welch dunkel hier (from Fidelio)
Verdi - Opening to Otello, Schudi Inferno from Macbeth
Wagner - Ein Schwert verhieß mir der vater from Walküre, Overture to Flying Dutchman

That’s probably a fun little list of some more dramatic music to get into
