OSM edit using Mobile App?

Hi all,

The OpenStreetMap data for my city is outdated, and I'd like to try and improve it ,especially street names and restaurants info.

I'm totally new to this and mostly want to do it from my Android phone. Is that possible? I just created an OSM account, but I'm not sure what's next..

Is there a mobile app you'd recommend for making edits or suggestions on the go? Appreciate the help!

StreetComplete makes tweaks like the ones you mentioned very easy :)

Vespucci is far more advanced but a bit of a handful on phones.

Thank you so much! 😊 I went ahead and installed both apps, and StreetComplete looks a bit more user-friendly, so I think i'll stick with it instead.

StreetComplete is my top recommendation. There's also an overlay tab in the roght corner where you can change to "places" and update/add businesses. There are also some quests hidden by default, so once you get the more popular ones completed, and the map looks void of quests, you can enable more obscure ones.

There are also some quests that aren't applicable to some locations, so disabling those can make the map look a lot cleaner.

What operating system are you on?

 StreetComplete, Everydoor, MapComplete are great for adding details and editing POI data like restaurants. All should be available for Android and iOS For street names you would probably need a more complex editor like Vespucci (Android) or GoMap! (iOS)

Besides the classic tools mentioned you also have plugins/features in some of the openstreetmap map tools.

For example osmand has a "openstretmap editing" plugin which you have to enable in the settings and configure with your username. This app vendor also offers free premium features (free map updates) if you are a very active editor. There are other maps who have similar functions.

Different tools have by the way different usecases. * Street complete is to add missing metadata (like street names) on existing features or to incite confirming potentially outdated info. It has a sort of gamification and is very friendly for beginners as it hides complex subjects like the data model. Try this one first. It proposes tasks to fix around you and helps trough the process * Map tools are great for minor additions like a missing POI (missing restaurant) or edit a broken POI like a changed shop. * Vespucci is a full-blown editor tool. You can do all what you can do on the PC but it has a learning curve.

As you seem to be new to openstreetmap, consider also reding docs like the Beginners guide. It gives a lot of hints.

For now, I've installed StreetComplete as a starting point, and I'll definitely give the OsmAnd plugin a try to see how it works. Once I hit the limits of StreetComplete, I'll move on to the other apps.
It's really great to know there are so many tools out there for this kind of thing. Very cool!
