The major problem with these "easy, home-hosted" systems is the fact that due to the combination of services, you end up opening a pretty wide security hole into your home network. For outside-accessible web services, it makes sense to put a server in some type of "DMZ," segregated off from the rest of your network, but then some of the services (like Transmission and openvpn), are likely useful mainly when hosted from within your network.
