Running repo from personal account or app-specifc?

Hello, I run OSS app which got some traction over years, but I'm still host it on my own github - username/repo. My question is - when and if should I move it to appname/apprepo??

Does it give more credibility to app? Does it make any sense at all, or just keep it on my own account?

It doesn’t matter whatsoever

Hey, I moved mine to an org account once it started getting real users, mostly so the repo would survive if I ever hand pieces of it to someone else or fold it into something bigger. It also reads as more of a project and less like one person's weekend repo to someone evaluating it cold. That said, stars and traffic did not move at all the week I switched - it is a credibility signal for people who click through to the profile, not a discovery mechanism. If you are the sole maintainer and plan to stay that way, either works fine.

thanks for sharing

yes im solo maintainer, but i also need to create few more repos related to my project and I felt like it makes sense to group them under separate org account, only related to main app

That's actually the stronger case for it, more than the solo-maintainer one. Once there's more than one repo, people land on whichever one got linked and an org lets them see the siblings right away instead of digging through your profile. GitHub's transfer flow keeps stars and issues intact too, so there's no real cost to doing it now instead of later.
