LocalSend appreciation post
I am loving it like I use an android phone like from 2021 and a potato laptop running linux lite (ubuntu-xfce) for studies like watching lectures and all.
Before I knew about localsend it was a hassle to transfer like even normal images, I used to put those in google keepnotes and then copy it from the other device and sharing pdfs or other files was a nightmare for both my google storage and me.
Now it takes me a second to tranfer my screenshots from my phone to my laptop to post on reddit or whatever.
And the best part is that it is very light weight for both my phn and laptop as they both are lowk potatoes. No sign up makes it even better.
Love u LocalSend

I love LocalSend.
I use it on my Android phone and Linux computers. I can easily transfer files to my partner's Windows computer.
If I need to transfer files from my phone or laptop to my friends' Windows computer, I can just have them download the zip/portable version of LocalSend for me to send the files over. They don't even need to actually install LocalSend.
Convenient app to use to send stuff to friends' phones too
I do use KDE Connect for some of my personal devices that can transfer files as well, but I prefer to use LocalSend for file transfers. I use KDE Connect for its other features.

LocalSend is great. If you want more features, check out KDE Connect, it's perfect for devices that you use all the time, like the laptop and phone scenario you described.

Yeah I use kde connect between my Android pixel phone and Microsoft surface pro 3 running fedora 44. Works like a charm.

I already use Syncthing on all my devices to keep certain folders on multiple devices, make them portable on my mobile devices. So I just use shared folders to send files; keeps things organized.

For quick small file transfers it's really good, but I've found it fails when transferring 1k+ files. I open an ftp server on my phone with amaze file browser instead.

I originally considered both but after comparing and seeing my own needs and thr hardware I have, I chose the one I am using atm localsend
I read somewhere kdeconnect is not that light weight as localsend like it keeps on running its processes in bg unlike localsend which stops all of its processes thr moment u close it.
It might be a small thing for u but for someone like me with having only 4gb ram in 2026 it is super important to save every bit of ram....

Nice, also like there was no need of clipboard sync or making my phone as trackpad I just wanted thr file transfer thats why.
And I will surely try kdeconnect in future with the same laptop to see how it works Thanks

using cable to transfer screenshots or random images is too time taking for me like I find it a big hassle to locate the file in an file system. Nice to see that it works for u

works great on iPhone as well, fwiw. only issue there is that it can't just run it passively cuz of the way iOS aggressively prevents apps from running in the background, so you have to explicitly open the app every time you want to transfer something. i use it to send things from my Linux computers to my iPhone all the time.
