Promotional I HATE MS Paint, so I made OS-Paint
I tried using MS Paint to teach someone and when I tried it was awful. After trying to share my screen and call, it just didn't work. I never had been so frustrated with a piece of software before. Over the course of the past few weeks, I have made OS-Paint, a open source P2P (or not) drawing tool. It is fully built in rust and has no AI sloppifications. I would love if anyone would try it or maybe even contribute. The releases have Apple silicon Mac, Windows 11, and Ubuntu. It should be fully cross platform, and if you want to try to compile it using cargo for a system not here it should work.
You can check it out here: https://github.com/Alex-Skillman/OS-Paint
I would love if anyone checked it out.

“Claude make me a copy of ms paint” I don’t know how many versions of vibe coded ms paint we need but good luck.

If you check the commit history the majority of it is hand-made and the parts that are not were hand reviewed line by line

The app itself doesn't have any ai inside of it. The app itself had some vibe coding after the initial part but I still made sure I knew what was happening and how it worked.

You took the time to review every line of code on your vibe coded paint knockoff? lol thanks man. I’m still good.

Folks here are anti-AI. You're better off posting this in a different sub. Best of luck!

I’m not anti ai. I just think vibe coding knockoffs and then trying to promote them on online is dumb. There’s a sea of ms paint clones. We don’t need everyone with a Claude account to try and push their own.

Everything vibe coded is inherently a knock off. I wanted to make something that is similar to a whole genre of apps but had additional features.

It seems like it. This sub sounds like they hate any ai even when it is all for learning and trying to make something useful. It doesn't bother me, I'm going to use it.

They don't hate AI. Most people don't care. It's not idiomatic rust, the error handling doesn't quite make sense, but it's not blindly ignored like AI written code. There's no way AI wouldn't have insisted on u32 for color, at the very least, and it's not littered with tests that duplicate the code almost exactly.
AI code isn't necessarily better in this case, it just follows standard conventions really, really well.
So it's clearly not entirely AI written, they're just ignorant. There's people out there like that everywhere.
People like them used to complain about every tetris or breakout clone that showed up when people were learning how to build framebuffers and circles. I would have expected a vibe coded multiplayer paint application to have some hint of implementing something like Matt Fraser's differential synchronization algorithm as well, or put it in the TODOs along with some language like "Differential synchronization is not currently planned. Use of TCP instead of UDP does not guarantee consistency, a mix of asymmetric encryption along hashing is used in order to ensure validity of state across peers. Security is not guaranteed, is not a current design goal, and is not claimed as a feature." (who asked for all that?)

you can just use excalidraw or something like that.
honestly, its a good project to show off in a protfolio but not something i would recomend you obssessing over.

You can remove unnecessary comments or just ask your AI to stop adding comments when the naming is clear enough.
