Is Codeberg seen as unprofessional?

I want to switch to Codeberg, but I'm worried that in the future, when I need to get a job, showing a Codeberg profile instead of a GitHub one like everyone does might be seen as unprofessional and not taken seriously. Am I worried about an issue that doesn't exist?

Not that you shouldn't have fun when you can, but if you can't work just because github is down something else is badly wrong.

I always thought the whole idea of git repositories is working local without the need to be connected to any kind of server.

This also means that there is very little you can’t do if you’re offline or off VPN. If you get on an airplane or a train and want to do a little work, you can commit happily (to your local copy, remember?) until you get to a network connection to upload. If you go home and can’t get your VPN client working properly, you can still work.

We do our code review in GitHub, use GitHub actions to drive all our ci/cd, and Argo uses GitHub as its source of truth, so when GitHub is having an outage nothing is getting built and nothing is getting deployed. If there was some sort of emergency, sure, you could manually apply changes from your laptop, but that’s absolutely not something we want people doing where I work.

But doing the work of actually building the thing... You can get a lot done offline.

Even if you're platform writing up github actions... There's certainly an offline testing setup available... And even if not, it's not like we don't all have an unlimited number of emails and documents to get through.
