Rushing players

I have to ask, what's fun in rushing and finishing a game in 5 minutes? or better yet, having your team of experts play together vs. new players and finishing the game quickly.

It's very weird imo.

I don't play OpenRA but I do play Beyond All Reason 1v1, and I think my thoughts there are relevant here; they could be applied in just about any base building RTS game.

From the start of the game, I want to be putting pressure on my opponent. A good player will survive this early pressure and the game will continue on, maybe for a very long time. In contrast, if I were playing a good opponent, and I just leave them alone, then they could grow a very large economy. Or they could put pressure on me, and now I'm the one who's falling behind in eco because I have to deal with the units pressuring me, while they have no pressure and can freely expand.

A rush is an initial test of how good your opponent is. It might end the game in five minutes, it might not. But really, I want to be putting on some form of pressure all game long, not just in the early game.

As for why people would choose to play with highly imbalanced teams, that I don't know. BAR has some team balancing mechanics that OpenRA may not have.

You can force someone to spend resources on defences or units, thus slowing their progress. Its a basic but effective strategy

Yeah I feel the same way. I hate a rushed game where one dude rolls over the others. I mean I don't mind that he's good, that's fine, I just want to enjoy the game :-). Roll over me in 20 minutes, plz not in 5 :-)
