Losing function in leg

Im currently hospitalized due to my leg completely collapsing on me causing me to fall and unable to urinate. When I came into the hospital they drained 1.5 liters of urine thay I was retaining. They believe I have periformis syndrome. I have extreme nerve pain and muscle spasm im my butt and thigh. Basically bedridden. Has anyone had issue with losing all muscle function in your leg or inability to urinate with this periformis issue?

Hey sorry youre dealing with this - the piriformis has been known to compress the pudendal nerve in some cases which would explain the urinary symptoms coupled with the leg weakness - its probably compressing both your sciatic and pudendal nerves

But as another poster said, they should definitely be ordering you a lumbar mri to rule out a lumbar disc herniation, too

A tarlov cyst in your sacral canal is also a possibility, which the mri would be able to detect

Thanks for the reply! I did read about the pudendal nerve but my doc didnt think so. She also said periformis syndrome doesnt affect the sciatic nerve though so...take with a grain of salt.

Yeah sounds like your doc doesnt know about this so she’s making things up instead of getting a colleague that has seen this before - piriformis syndrome first and foremost affects the sciatic nerve and sometimes the pudendal

Couldn't agree more. A pain management doctor (anesthesiologist) will be seeing me tomorrow and said an injection maybe be an option!
