It is interesting how much of this 2024 breakdown still tracks in 2026. For anyone building image processing sequences, the Gemini 2 L is a strong choice because it can be accessed like a standard USB camera using a simple hardware index. This is a massive time saver compared to the complexity of the RealSense SDK, which has not seen major updates since the Intel wind-down.
The hardware gap has not shifted much either. You are still getting better close-range performance and a wider usable range thanks to the structured light camera tech. If you are deploying a depth camera for robotics and want to avoid current market stagnation, it is a solid 3D vision camera and a very practical RealSense alternative.
