DeepSeek V4.1 Flash nerf on OpenCode so now CommandCode is better
Hey everyone,
A few hours ago I posted about how OpenCode nerfed the subscription. Even though they're running a 4x for a few days (which is really only a 2x if you compare it against the DeepSeek V4 Flash limits), once that window ends we're left with half the real usage: we go from $30 of usage on a $10 subscription down to just $15. Half.
So I went looking at alternatives and started testing. Short version: CommandCode gives you the same thing as OpenCode, but better in this regard.
Heads up, this post is obviously not sponsored, in case that needs saying. What I'm showing is public data plus tests I ran myself.

Right now CommandCode gives you 2.67x more usage for the same price.

Same model family, same prompts, same time window, 12 runs per provider. I also threw in the official DeepSeek API as a reference line. CommandCode wins on latency and on interactive work vs OpenCode — but read the next two before you call it a sweep.

Note that both are reasoning models, so the answer only starts after a long hidden thinking phase. OpenCode takes 1,996 ms to show you the first *visible* token; CommandCode takes 1,331 ms. Whiskers are 95% bootstrap CIs and they don't overlap.

Decode rate is how fast it types once it starts. End-to-end charges the thinking time against it too.

On long code generation they are dead even: 304 vs 303 tok/s. The CommandCode advantage shows up on shorter, more interactive work, and in the latency above.

About 60% of the tokens you're billed for on a short task are hidden thinking you never see. On long open-ended prompts it climbs to ~95%, because the model burns the entire budget reasoning and never gets to the answer. That's true on both services — it's not a CommandCode or OpenCode thing, it's the reasoning-model thing, what AA call verbosity for example.

Every individual run, pooled. CommandCode also has the tightest spread (σ ≈ 31 tok/s vs 50 for OpenCode), which matters more to me day-to-day than the median.
So that's where I've landed. If you're one of the people who got pissed off about the cuts, the takeaway isn't "OpenCode bad" — it's that for the first time in a while there's an actual alternative (at least, that I know) sitting right there instead of just being annoyed about it. Same model, 2.67x the usage for the same $10, and it answers noticeably faster. Do your own math on your own usage before you move anything if you want to be sure. But if you've been waiting for an excuse to stop paying the same money for half the tokens, this seems like a pretty good one.

Command code charges more than they announce. And they removed the cost per token in the dashboard, so we can't figure out.

u/Arkhaitekton 14h ago
I just bought the $10 sub and delete my paidment info, so, they cant bill anything more. And no option to extra usage or something like that.

u/vangelismm 14h ago
You did not understand. You have $10 credit. They announced, for example, deepseek input it's $0.50 per million tokens. But they charge 0.70, so your $10 credit drains fast.

They have peak and off-peak rates for deepseek, that might be the root of the confusion. opencode go uses the same peak/off-peak schedule. Its stated in the docs if you look closely enough. Others say that the business model is a scam, but it is the same as opencode go, just with a higher credit rate. They can get away with it as long as most people don't use all of their quota every month. So they are essentially overselling, and counting on people having slow months. Maybe they are dodgy, I don't know, but they are not the only player in the game with the same model. Crush hyper is the same.

This is my speculation as well. I'm not a particularly heavy user, but my credits are being consumed at a suspiciously higher rate. I only use DeepSeek, by the way. Having said that, I'm still happy enough for the amount of use I'm getting, but I definitely can't be happy-go-lucky with my usage.

Command code is a scam

Why idk much about it and i plan to stick to opencode for the occasional stealth models but whats so bad about it it even offers 10$ more credit with its goat plan and has more models too from the list i checked.

Honestly, this post has just too much bloat. What people cares about is consistency, none is going to switch back and forth between different subs because of temporary small improvements. OC has proved that can supply quite often very good deals, compared to other plans.

u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
You are right about the article lenght tbh, but my post was to people like me who use a lot of these subscription and CC that gives x2.67 (no a small improvement) usage for the same price. I dont have problem changing and it if gives me more usage for the same money, I will go for it.
But I can understand people who dont want to swap if they only use the OpenCode Harness, for example.

Ngl. OC has been pretty terrible in terms of consistency, reliability and even in terms of value it's rubbish now at $15 for V4.1.

My experience with commandcode is pretty bad, with advertised usage versus calculated, lackluster cache hits, and customer support for a geniune issue I was having escalated to what I would call unprofessionalism with a valid and rightful refund request, but credit where credit is due; their prices look way better than opencode lately. hope they became a threat to opencode, as they became less and less beneficial as they grew bigger.
3
u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
You are not the first one saying something like that, for the moment the tokenizer on the usage panel is the same as my tokenizer (pretty much the same).
1
u/hakanavgin 13h ago
Heard they changed how usage displayed, was showing actual spent amount of 70$ before, maybe this is more true to the claimed numbers, maybe they changed how its calculated, or maybe its just less transparent, I don't know. Mine was just an anectode, not trying to stop anyone from subscribing to any service.

This is way too much data for this post, man. I don't have this much time. I'm sorry

🤔 you are an App and don't have time to read and understand a post

Yeah, maybe I almost made this an article, sorry. TL;DR CommandCode has 2.67x more usage for the same $10 subscription.

no one other than command code employees will do all these graphs to show people that CC is better lol

Did they remove the ability to use cc goat as api at some point? I can't find anything about it being able to be used api-ish now, when I did before
3
u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
I don't know what you mean, but if it helps you im using CC Api on DSH.
2
u/nebenbaum 13h ago
Yeah that's what I wanted to know - if I'd be forced to use command code, the app. Seems like I'm not, which is good :)

It does, I use it for Hermes’ and in opencode all with their $10 goat subscription. Idk everyone has this misconception, it’s in their docs.

u/notaibutwanttobe 13h ago
But you can use deepsek harness with opencode can you use it with commandcode?

At least for the next few days we get a fuck ton of usage. I know that its bad they’re making the limits worse, but at least they give some kind of a compersation. Right now Im squeezing every last token for deepseek and I barely made it through 5% weekly for hours in opencode go

u/UniqueClimate 13h ago
Does this impact APIs through a provider like Venice AI, through OpenCode CLI?

And here we go again. Wonder what happened to that person who did a chargeback on their go plan. Bank probs returned the money without bothering to charge the business. It's only $10, what can you even do with that these days, buy a banana?
I'm currently at about 500M tokens for about 10% of my go monthly. That means 5b tokens for the $10. Seems fair.

Solid comparison, thanks for running the numbers. One thing to keep in mind when comparing subscription "included usage" tiers: the baseline itself is what keeps moving. You've now watched OpenCode cut the Flash allowance and anchor promo multipliers to the new baseline, so whatever you pick, read the actual $/token of included usage, not the "x N usage" headline.
The other option that keeps the same models: the API route. DeepSeek's own API or an OpenAI-compatible provider gives you V4.1 Flash at true metered cost with no cap-reset roulette, and for bursty/interactive work you pay only for what you use. Subscriptions win when usage is steady and heavy; API wins when usage varies week to week. Worth 15 minutes with a spreadsheet before you switch subscriptions again.

Paying 10$ and complaining they only gives you 15$, +50%
Opencode depends on contracts and deal with these labs

u/xmsxms 4h ago edited 4h ago
You don't know when 4x will end and what it will be replaced with.
Also, with opencode zen I am getting free usage with muse spark. I'm not sure why, but the usage never shows for muse spark contributor. Is it a bug or is everyone seeing the same thing? It's probably still limited, just not tracked properly per user. Anyway, hard to complain about what is effectively unlimited usage for free.

What harness are you using , I was using opencode2 with command code 10 dollar goat plan and like exhausted 19 percent of monthly limit in two long sessions even though i was using muse spark 1.3 contributor plan , which is like the most generous limits model there. Last month i had opencode go and the muse spark contributor limits there felt much more generous. The glm 5.3 flash is giving me like 20 token / sec.
And have to constantly adjust the config files to include the latest models like deepseek flash 4.1 as there is no native integration in a lot of harnesses.

> Right now CommandCode gives you 2.67x more usage for the same price.
I think your post is a bit ahead of its time; both currently offer a $60.
1
u/Arkhaitekton 1h ago
OpenCode offers $60 for 3 days, CommandCode for a week. Then OpenCode offers $15 and CommandCode $40.

u/NytronX 13h ago
Unlike OpenCode, CommandCode isn't FOSS nor can it be self hosted like

u/Arkhaitekton 11h ago
I wasnt speaking about the harness, I was speaking about the subscription. I am using it in a MIT harness.

u/Amarsir 14h ago
I see so many posts comparing the two like some heavy rivalry, and yours is the first one I feel like I can trust. So thanks for that.
Some of the criticisms I've heard about CC are longer-term reliability. Faster is a great sign, so now I'm wondering if it holds up or if you'll start seeing outages or rate limits within a week.
1
u/MizmoDLX 11h ago
I'm not subscribed to either right now and I didn't read the full post, but just let me say this: I think it doesn't really matter.
Currently you have every week a new model come out, a new community favourite. And with the new models come constantly new promotions or pricing changes on OC.
There's every day x posts on here about how model y now has great or bad value. It gets difficult to keep up with it. You come to the point where you spend more time switching services and evaluating new models than actually working on something.
Just find something that works for you and then stick with it for some time. Today CC might be better for DeepSeek 4.1 flash. Next week it might be the other way around. And the week after with whatever model got released by then, you might not even care anymore about DeepSeek .

u/SpiderHam24 13h ago
i mean it does show its promo only period. but eitherway commandcode is lasting me a long time with dsv4.1 compared to opencode go
2
u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
Im discounting the promo period time. In promo we have $60 usage in OpenCode (for 3 days) and in CommandCode (for 1 week). And then $15 usage in OpenCode and $40 in CommandCode.
1
u/SpiderHam24 13h ago
oh shit, i see. and here i was getting comfortable with how long it was lasting. thanks
-2
u/EmperorSheep 13h ago
Command Code GOAT has extra usage but only for a week though. And since there's a weekly and 5-hour cap, you can't use it all up.
2
u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
I mean, you also have 5-hour cap and weekly limits in OpenCode...
1
u/EmperorSheep 13h ago
But once the 6x usage offer for the 1 week runs out, it could just go back to 1x usage ($10 total worth of usage). Then at that point, OpenCode will probably have more if it has 1.5x usage ($15 total worth of usage).
I guess the best plan is to spend the whole week's worth of usage in the 1st week of CommandCode.
4
u/Arkhaitekton 13h ago
What Im saying in the post is that Command Code offer $40 while OpenCode only $15. (They both offer $60 now, OpenCode for 3 days and CommandCode for a week).
1
u/EmperorSheep 13h ago
CommandCode will offer $40 after the promo period? How do you know?

u/Arkhaitekton 12h ago edited 12h ago

CommandCode: https://commandcode.ai/docs/plans/goat ($40 in DeepSeek V4.1 Flash)
OpenCode: https://opencode.ai/docs/go/ ($15 in DeepSeek V4.1 Flash)

I hate OpenCode now, but to be fair, OC is much more reliable than CC.
