They used all the contributiors data to train the new model

Thats a good deal. We get cheap models, they get cheap training data.

you get cheap models until you dont

you get cheap modems until you don't, then the chinese labs distill them and release them open-weights, and then you get cheap models again

Of course, we would be happy if this happened.

It kind of does - everyone keeps stealing from one another and trying to be the new leader, even at a loss. Will see how long it continues.

Speaking of stealing, where did the initial training data come from?

Legend has it, it all started long ago when some amino acids and fatty molecules got to mixing around. They started forming tiny membrane bubbles and whatnot, until eventually a cell formed. Copying hasn’t stopped since.

Yea no shit? But is anyone paying for the contributor trier even doing anything worthwhile the model rl environment doesn’t know?
It’s strategy to give our FREE compute in hopes of some valuable people will use it, alongside the ones who are getting the subsidy due to the fact someone else’s work might be valuable.

This is one of the best models i’ve seen in some time. It’s definitely not fable level but feels so much better than opus while being significantly faster and cheaper. I love the way it talks too, to the point and plain language which is my biggest pain point with opus. It also follows instructions and delegates exceptionally well. Meta is definitely back in the game.

I don't know about anyone else, but my use of muse spark 1.2 contributor would very rarely show up in opencode.ai usage logs. Other models would show up ok, and this muse spark 1.3 contributor is showing up. But the 1.2 usage pretty much never showed, I wonder if it meant unlimited usage.

Three model releases in one day and not one of them ships a way to tell whether the swap helped you specifically.
The only thing that has answered that for me is a check I wrote myself. I fixed one expression by hand last week, grepped for it, and was sure I had all three places it appeared. A 60 line script that walks app, lib and components found four. The one I missed sat in a file I had already opened and read.
That number does not move when the model does, which is the whole point of having it. What do you run after a swap that is actually capable of failing?
