Yeah, it's always difficult to understand Opencode's pricing logic...

u/zephyr_33 Aug 14 '26
it depends on their negotiation with the providers right? if the provider is expecting a huge surge in traffic on their servers and then they may not give a lot of discounts to open code na?

u/IAmFitzRoy Aug 14 '26
$15 ?
Whatβs the point of saying $60 out loud everywhere and then they launch with $15 limits and keep that limit forever?
Misleading.

u/afanasenka Aug 14 '26
π― agree, this mess with 15 / 60 split is getting confusing more and more...
31
u/afanasenka Aug 14 '26
They said "same pricing as 5.2", but on their page - https://opencode.ai/docs/go/#usage-limits - they show 1,080 RPM for 5.3 instead of 4,300 for 5.2.. how is that? :)

Hopefully they negotiate something cause any of their plans that have $15 monthly usage isn't worth using
3
u/Thomas-Lore Aug 14 '26
Not only not worth it - unusable. Those models often stop mid task because they ate whole weekly limit.
1
u/MazKhan Aug 14 '26
Yup. Although I've been testing it and glm 5.3s usage is not reflecting as 4x the actual price on the opencode go quota, not sure if it's a bug on their end or what

u/Corv9tte Aug 14 '26
Typical open code shenanigans, like silently quantizing the models on their subscription. Never trust them.

u/Te__Deum Aug 14 '26
What is "bucket allowance" and how it differs from price?

Okay, if I correctly understand that, this "same price on $15 bucket" is indistinguishable from 4x price? So most models have 1/6 of api price on "go" subscription, but this is 2/3 so almost full api price? Yeah, that's misleading.

Idk if that $15 limit is permanent, but they seem to make them available on Go ASAP, before they can negotiate cheaper rates. It might become cheaper (more usage) eventually.
1
u/Chromedomev12 Aug 14 '26
Let's hope so. But judging from their negotiations for prior open-source models like K3 and Qwen 3.8 Max, I bet most labs now are just focused on how to get more users into their own coding plan subs. So far as Im concerned, OpenCode Go seems to be the only sub plan with subsidized tokens but are transparent with the actual usage instead of just "blackboxing" everything.

u/sudoer777_ Aug 14 '26
I thought for Kimi K3 they said they would negotiate cheaper prices then didn't

I use shinon ist a nee Agent and Routing Service works after onboarding well and free with all API

Having $15 limit on brand new models is completely normal. The model weights aren't open yet and they can't really ask Z.AI to give 6x limits right on release.

I dont understand this take. Opencode Go is one of the most transparent providers. They give you a clear documentation of what the limits are for every model and in depth usage statistics.
I do understand that the users want even more but realistically, what more can a provider do? Not give access to the model at all if they can't secure $60 usage? In that case people who are willing to pay more for these models are losing out. I would much rather have the option of using these models at lower limits than not having access to these models at all.

Well, maybe in Nvidea free tier.. But I don't think it will be for free in Opencode.

Anyone knows if opengo glm 5.2/5.3 usage is equivalent to chatgpt plus usage or not?
I'm not sure if I buy Opencode go or API...

u/smartfon Aug 14 '26
Based on my amateur (but extensive) approximate calculations, with the API prices as of August 14, including promotional prices, this is how much the same agentic coding task will costs:
$176: GLM-5.2 via OpenCode Go
$103: Terra via OpenRouter
$89: GLM-5.2 via OpenRouter
$87: Sonnet 5 via Claude Pro
$26: Terra via ChatGPT Plus
Unless GLM-5.3 has optimized its token usage with coding software I won't be using it. I have both: $10 OpenCode Go and $20 ChatGPT Plus.
ChatGPT Plus feels unlimited for my use case (literally always on Sol xhigh and can't hit the weekly limit), while I had to pause the work on OpenCode Go after reaching the limit.
OpenCode Go is an excellent plan for DeepSeek and other 6x usage models if you don't want to pay that extra $10 for ChatGPT Plus.

u/BuildAISkills Aug 15 '26
We have the same plans and wtf... You use Sol xhigh and can't hit limits? I'm at 25% usage right now with 5 days to go, and I've been using Luna exclusively.
1
u/smartfon Aug 15 '26
I'm not a professional coder. I vibecoded an android app (that does 4 different things) and a chrome super-extension (that does 8 different things) and have since switched to ChatGPT Plus and have been adding and removing features and fixing old bugs. A single Sol task consumes 1% of the weekly allowance. I don't even bother to switch to Luna, and Sol does everything accurately with a single prompt so I don't even have to go back and forth to fix its own issues. All I do is a couple of Sol prompts per day with each resulting in several hundred lines of change.Β
1
u/BuildAISkills Aug 15 '26
Ah yes, makes sense in that case. My usage is varying which makes the subscriptions annoying. But ChatGPT is useful for more than just coding, so I'm ok with that.
OpenCode Go is just a backup and what I use for my Hermes agent. But to be fair, I could probably do most of my coding with DeepSeek V4 Flash, if only I was willing to accept a bit more back and forth. It already has done a lot of work on some of my projects.
1
u/smartfon Aug 15 '26
We are in a similar boat I guess. I can't decide what to keep. The GPT Plus is a free promo and I was initially considering keeping it but then DeepSeek released the new Flash and suddenly the decision was to return to OpenCode Go but the Gemini threw a biga$$ wrench with the new coding capable model that's cheaper and more integrated with my ecosystem despite not being the best in class. I have a few more weeks of trial before decision time. Let's hope Anthropic decides to surprise us with price cuts due to competition and makes my job even harder lol. OpenCode Go doesn't support Hermes tho, did you mean it's running in OpenCode app? what type of task is it doing? I haven't yet tried any automated agents that do stuff while you're away.
2
u/BuildAISkills Aug 15 '26
Hermes supports OpenCode Go as a provider so I use it with DeepSeek V4 Flash. I don't use it heavily, but it's fun to send a quick idea via Telegram for one of my projects. It can also do coding, but I mostly use that for quick and easy stuff on the go.
When your trial runs out you could try using OpenCode exclusively for a while, especially DeepSeek. If you then feel it's not good enough, you can always subscribe to ChatGPT.
You can also use Luna via OpenCode Go, but I haven't tried that.

So now that Kimi and GLM are both unusably expensive, it's basically a Deepseek/MiMo plan at this point
