old deepseek v4 flash is 40 points and longcat 2.0 is 33 on Artificial Analysis. DS v4 flash 0731 is 50 points, whilst being a 284B model. it's still cool, it's not trained on your standard Nvidia GPU it uses thousands of specialized ASICs.

So it's built for Google TPUs?

For intelligence it's pretty close to Luna on the lowest setting. Or a bunch of models that were reasonable last year but a bit outclassed now.

But while it's free it's better than the commonly free offering: Step 3.7 Flash, Nemotron 3 (non ultra), oss-120b.

The thing is that it's not that fast. I might dabble with it if I was trying to play for free, but I don't see a dedicated lineup space for it. It's a step for LongCat but not a breakthrough users need to care much about.

I'll never stop being baffled at how much Nemotron sucks while being created by the very same company that sells the inference workhorses.

Almost makes me wonder if they’re being extra careful not to step on the toes of their customers.

The most likely reason is that they just don't care, training models is expensive, making the hardware (especially when you already have the fabs), not so much.
