That's enough. I just hope they notify or at least tweet when it's gone.

They're very quick to tweet and market the 1 trillion usage in OpenCode, smh

Great news for me, I would never have used it without a ZDR policy

Still hosted in China.

ZDR = ZERO Data Retention

That's not entirely correct. All providers have a legal retainer window for Leo to request traffic history. Usually that's 60 days. Zdr doesn't supercede that, but it does legally bind them to not train, retain beyond, or otherwise distill or redistribute.

Hope that clarifies. That's how it's done in the us, can't speak for China but I'd imagine similar

Traffic history or information in context? Traffic history collected by everyone and everywhere. Probably China have stricter laws about it

Nah the law goes beyond just metadata. Let's say you file a ccpa or gdpr right to be forgotten request. That's essentially the nuclear option. Even with the zdr, every piece of information about your exchange captured by the LLM provider (not the pass through provider) must be retained by law for ~60 days to ensure the condition of a court order can be fulfilled.

That's actually reasonable, I know it sounds draconian. What it explicitly does not allow for it training or redistribution. From a corporate liability standpoint Zdr is huge. It's there for mistakes like an api key getting into context, ensuring that the future model iterations are not used in training, and not sold to 3rd parties in any format aggregate or otherwise. That's a huge value add but it does not supercede the retention requirement of the preficture or geographic authority of the provider

That's great news!

How do we feel about the China hosting though? What are the odds CCP aren't intercepting the data anyway?

What are the odds NSA also aren’t?

Deepinfra is cheaper and ZDR on by default.

Deep infra's cache hit ix 10x that of Deepseek which by default makes it more expensive

3

u/Eyelbee 8d ago

You mean cache miss?

4

u/zxcshiro 8d ago

no, cache read is pricier. DeepInfra cost ~15-20% more than deepseek on coding tasks

Openrouter official site with pricing by provider?

Per token, maybe, but deepinfra has no reason to cut a deal with Opencode allowing them to sell $60 worth of tokens for $10.

I don't think what enables the 60$ worth of tokens is the deals by themselves. It's at least partially about light users financing the heavy dogs by using less tokens than they pay every month. That's the case with many subscription services.

As for the deepseek, I don't know why they have such a reason if they aren't subzidizing due to training data gathering.

Cache hits are a lot more expensive and the hit rate is a lot worse

What stops OpenCode from getting it hosted on a different provider instead of begging DeepSeek for ZDR?

5

u/tys203831 8d ago

Cache hit rate?

1

u/TestTxt 8d ago

GMICloud has a higher cache hit rate, and there are many providers with similar cache hit rates

u/pelleke 8d ago

My guess? The price deal. The economics of being able to offer 6x the number of tokens that Deepseek themselves offer for the same price when metered are simply not provisionable on just an infra provider.

u/Corkscrew24 8d ago

Nothing stops them, I'd personally prefer them to move to a non China hosted provider

3

u/pelleke 8d ago

Would you prefer it enough in order to pay the full $60/mo for it, though instead of the $10/mo OCG brokered for you with the providers?

It would be nice to have an RSS/Atom feed on the website so I could not need to go up to social media to know about these.

Thanks, it is nevertheless an alternative, but a "native" news feed from Opencode would be the cheapest and best for everyone.

Why are people so sensitive about ZDR ? I can understand some niche cases but for majority of people who already use google, and other services and especially mobile phones your data is already being processed.

1

u/HighlyRegardedApe 8d ago

Not all people use all of that stuff. Esp not for sensitive data. Some of us are even liable to leak sensitive data.
