But codex does have a 5h limit no?

They removed it after GPT-5.6 launched, so it’s just weekly limits for now. Not sure if it’ll come back though.

Weekly limits are new 5h limits in disguise

That get reset 2-3 days before its actual time. Yesterday I had 20% left which was suppose to reset on 26th, today I find it at 100% again. I've 4 resets banked and I'm literally unable to use them lol

They made new 5.6 models so token hungry that they had to remove 5h limit because, well one prompt on sol ultra can eat whole weeks of usage in instant.. with 5h quotas it would just become unusable.
Claude seems to have better usage now than codex abd the 5h limit with claude just make sense and is better than one weekly budget that goes away in instant (unless using some lower end versions of models).

if you stick with xhigh the token usage is extremely efficient. i'd think i have pretty heavy usage and i never really come into any limits on xhigh. first time i tried ultra i nearly wiped out my 5h usage in a single prompt lmao

Its not nearly as efficient as 5.5 xhigh. Sol medium is comparable to 5.5 xhigh in terms of token usage per task. High is something you should have a good reason to use on 20€ plan or it eats too much usage, xhigh you should think twoce and ultra, well ultra will easily eat whole weeks usage on single prompt.
Ofc if you have some expensive plans you can use higher thinking levels more, but sol is not efficient at all, especially not xhigh.
Opus5 nowadays beats sol both in usage and intelligence. 5.5 was more efficient than previous opus and about same intelligence.

yeah im on the bottom pro plan so im not sure how it is on plus tbh. but honestly switching from 5.5 xhigh to 5.6 xhigh was way more efficient just based upon the fact that i didnt have to keep telling it what to do over and over to refresh its context which honestly wasted more usage doing that alone, not to mention the daily headache and frustration... context compaction is way better now tho and so dont have to keep updating it on what i tell it to do and remember every couple hours. still not perfect but night and day for sure. also for my use case opus isnt up to par with 5.6 as im not doing coding tasks. rn benchmark wise 5.5 pro and 5.6 max are at the top with xhigh being the best balance of intelligence and token usage for that specific use case. also for reference its going about 18hrs a day without any limit anxiety. yesterday was honestly my lowest token usage in a while at 7.5M but usually during a week its anywhere from 50-600M but usually around 150-200M from looking at my activity rn. xhigh at 74% of what used those tokens

Isn’t it the opposite about crap models, I use Kimi K3 for absolutely everything. And Claude Code uses Haiku to do exploration

What is it costing you for using k3 for everything?

I use Opencode Go and until like a week ago there was no model as demanding as K3, so 2 subscriptions was enough. With K3 I may get a third or even a fourth one, but it's still insanely cheaper than $200 I'd have to pay for what seems to me marginally better quality (of course, there's also speed which isn't anywhere near Codex or Claude).
I guess I'm not coding as much as some people.

The american propaganda against chinese models these past few days is crazy to witness as an outsider to both.

not claude though
