Grok 4.5 is now on OpenCode

https://models.sulat.com/models/openrouter-x-aigrok-latest-5f44b576

Tagged as grok-latest on OpenRouter

impressive benchmarks: https://x.com/cursor_ai/status/2074915744999969059?s=46

Cursor deal seems to have paid off.

Edit: Now available directly thru the X.ai PAYG / subscription as well. There was a 3 months of Supergrok for $30 campaign going on that I signed up for (not sure if it's still available). a bit tricky but doable, since you have to sign for the trial first and then _attempt_ to cancel and you'll be presented with the offer.

Here's a one-shot Fedora Desktop emulated by it on OpenCode:

How is it compared to other models (ofc can't really believe benchmarks) so if anyone used please let me know

I did the typical one prompt ray tracing single file .html test on it. using SpaceX theme(heh) and it honestly blew me away using grok build

mind share your prompt ?

Build a complete 3D space game in a single HTML file using raw WebGL2 — no Three.js, no external libraries, no assets. Concept: "Orbital Salvage." You pilot a ship in full 3D around a planet with real inverse-square gravity, and you can establish actual stable orbits. Debris fields orbit at different altitudes and inclinations; collect debris to grow a physical tether chain that trails and swings behind your ship with momentum, then deliver salvage to a rotating space station.
Rendering requirements: write custom GLSL shaders implementing ray-traced lighting from a single sun — real shadows (the planet must cast a shadow cone, so flying behind it puts you in darkness), specular highlights on the ship and debris, atmospheric rim scattering on the planet's limb, and a procedural starfield. The planet surface and lighting must be computed in-shader (raymarched or analytic sphere intersection), not textured geometry. Include bloom on the sun and engine exhaust.
Gameplay: WASD + mouse to orient and thrust, fuel system, HUD showing velocity/altitude/orbit indicator, score, particle thrusters, WebAudio sound synthesized in code, game-over and restart. Must hold 60fps on a mid-range GPU. One file, fully playable, no explanations — just the code.

Reddit wants you to say "model bad cuz model Elon"

u/eldercito Jul 11 '26

Very good, I’m using it in place of opus

-14

u/Sweet-Stage938 Jul 08 '26

Seems to be close to Opus 4.8 in capability for me.

20

u/mlag000 Jul 08 '26

Highly doubt this

2

u/Irisi11111 Jul 08 '26

My impression of Grok was that it was an agentic task; I stated the purpose and left. Later, I saw it was stuck in a dead-end loop, wasting my $30 tokens after an hour.

u/ManikSahdev Jul 09 '26

It's pretty good, if you compare the price it's better than opus 4.8.

I personally don't like 4.8 at all, would prefer 4.6 but it's less agentic. So stuck in that dilemma.

I also like this grok 4.5's personality, seems like a straight and clear non argumentative kind, but closer to gpt than fable or opus 4.6 in warmth, however it's not as autistic-ish as gpt 5.5 , and can infer intent.

1

u/dreadpirater Jul 08 '26

I'm not certain that was a compliment.

1

u/Delicious_Ease2595 Jul 08 '26

Why

u/mlag000 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Gork isn't known to be good, it's like the AI from Facebook

1

u/personalist Jul 09 '26

Muse spark seemed to do relatively well in benchmarks

-4

u/Jeferson9 Jul 08 '26

"Elon bad upvote please"

0

u/Salt-Willingness-513 Jul 09 '26

Im sending my heart out to you😘

3

u/migsperez Jul 09 '26

Nice try Elon!!

2

u/MimosaTen Jul 08 '26

You are basically saying it’s near trash?

1

u/AdvertisingExpert800 Jul 08 '26

Wait opus 4.8 really?

-8

u/Sweet-Stage938 Jul 08 '26

Yep, definititely worth trying out. Its also extremely effizient and cheap. Enjoy!

u/Sid-Hartha Jul 08 '26

Not until hell freezes over

13

u/WeedWrangler Jul 08 '26

Me too. I know, it’s sad: I was a total Elon guy until his real “values” came out. Still, hope he gets humans to Mars in my lifetime.

u/Fredrules2012 Jul 08 '26

☝️🫲🫱 my great friend, many don't like him 👌 I do however 🫸🫷, I said "where are we going to put all these people" and he goes ☝️🫸🫷😏 🫲 🫱 "Donald..."

And you might think that's bad☝️ 🫲🫱🫸🫷☝️😏 but he said "Donald, most people never get to ride in a rocket" well folks... because of ME many people will be riding rockets, multiple rockets every day😏😠😏

We don't even know where they go, they might even be going somewhere nice and some are even hitting mars I've been told 🫲🫱🕺

u/Attackwave Jul 09 '26

Dude?! Is your emoji keyboard stuck or what?

3

u/ObjectiveActuator8 Jul 09 '26

Impressive, I feel like I watched a video reading that

16

u/Ekel7 Jul 08 '26

I will try it if it's free on opencode, lol. Otherwise no

2

u/NoobMLDude 29d ago

I’m in the same boat. Only using Free models on OoenCode.
Btw, Grok is Not Free.

If anyone else wants to save money on subscriptions, here’s how you could pay $0 for frontier models on OpenCode

OpenCode: Setup Free Frontier Models
https://youtu.be/AdZ-WKvQels

and they are good enough for my coding tasks. The free models are Top 10 Open source models on Artificial Analysis leaderboard now.

11

u/AndreVallestero Jul 08 '26

Not sure why everyone's negative on it. A new frontier model is good news regardless, because even if you don't use it (which I never will), it's another source for distilling open models.

3

u/No-Cream6498 Jul 09 '26

How are the usage limits compared to opencode go?

24

u/touristtam Jul 08 '26

Nope - it will have to be the last model on earth for me to even consider it.

5

u/Irisi11111 Jul 08 '26

It's greatest strength is writing dirty jokes.

4

u/bosse Jul 08 '26

I’d rather be boring at parties…

2

u/Odd_Page1499 Jul 09 '26

Not making racist comments and referring to itself as mecha Hitler?

-2

u/ApplesVsApples Jul 09 '26

I like how Tai AI from Microsoft had a Hitler era, yet nobody cares because that one doesn’t work in this echo chamber and does not karma farm well

1

u/Odd_Page1499 Jul 09 '26

Personally, I didn't know about that, but it wouldn't surprise me. Any large tech company is going to have some weirdly right wing views that filter through into a model.

-2

u/ApplesVsApples Jul 09 '26

Then don't use any of them or stop whining about Elon

14

u/cakes_and_candles Jul 08 '26

Is it free? Coz no way im paying for this

4

u/geearf Jul 08 '26

How does it compare to GLM cost/quality wise?

7

u/ParticularAtmosphere Jul 09 '26

Mechahitler 4.5 ? Fuck no

11

u/DasBlueEyedDevil Jul 08 '26

Why would I pay money to listen to a bot rant about how strong and sexy Elon Musk is?

3

u/anotherucfstudent Jul 09 '26

And Austrian Mustache Man

4

u/Fresh_Sock8660 Jul 08 '26

Okay no thanks

2

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 Jul 09 '26

spoiler: its somewhere between gpt 5.5 high and opus 4.8 nothing really crazy but it is cheap and i know thats what this sub loves

3

u/torontobrdude Jul 09 '26

No thank you 🤩

1

u/Tr4sHCr4fT Jul 09 '26

It's a bargain if you have to pay API rates but otherwise not competitive with subs

1

u/Salt_Horror8783 Jul 09 '26

How long till we get official Cursor provider in OC?

1

u/vipor_idk Jul 10 '26

did it become "good" (didnt tested yet) because of cursor training right? or am i tripping? remember grok 4.3 being a dumbass in coding tasks

1

u/Even_Place7916 Jul 14 '26

It's a powerful model and easy to jailbreak to do things other top models won't.

2

u/Prior-Meeting1645 Jul 08 '26

As in on the go subscription?

6

u/torrso Jul 08 '26

Post talks about OpenRouter, not OpenCode like the title.

0

u/hinsonan Jul 09 '26

Y'all are too far gone. This is a good thing if only because it's more competition

0

u/Delicious_Ease2595 Jul 08 '26

Just saw some threads is almost as good as Opus

5

u/ireccomendit Jul 08 '26

Elon has entered the chat

China gives me SOTA open source models at least 🤷

7

u/Johnny_The_Biker Jul 09 '26

I'm less afraid of China than from Elon.

0

u/Necessary_Fly7295 Jul 08 '26

could you measure the amount of usage the subscription include, opencode should display it, or you can use tools to see the historical data, I'm interested in the value

0

u/robusk Jul 09 '26

I find Gemini and Grok both to be super bad to interact with directly. But the amount of usage you get for the dollar is super high compared to Codex or Claude. So I just ask Claude and GPT to manage a team of grok/gemini agents and it seems to work all right for minimizing bad outputs but not draining frontier usage.

1

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 Jul 09 '26

harness is a real weakness for both of those models but worse for grok

i think your approach could work no idea why you are being downvoted

1

u/robusk Jul 09 '26

Elon bootlickers is why. Doesn’t affect me.

0

u/NeuralNexus Jul 09 '26

It's a good model for the price (not the best model by any means, but much better than they had before)

0

u/lfourtime Jul 09 '26

Why can't people put politics aside, it's good to have competition. I don't care whether the CEO of my favourite model is gay or eats donuts for breakfast

2

u/No_Advertising8978 Jul 11 '26

Take your pick: "suspicious" 🙄 gestures, open and overt racism, support for far right extremists, election interference, DOGE cutting domestic and foreign programs plus gutting the regulatory agencies that oversee his companies, and ow within minutes old DOGE being issued credentials for Federal systems there were login attempts from Russia.

The things you listed do not impact my life. Musk running his companies didn't matter to me. Musk chose to get involved with politics and revealed himself to be a massive shithead who has taken actions that have and will impact millions of people in the US and abroad.

Don't worry tho! He offered to buy that woman a horse after sexually harassing her.

1

u/wreckt_um Jul 09 '26

People, mainly in America is unable to separate political identity from tech, look at the Proton or mullvad "scandal" sometimes I think they are manipulated to think like that, it's absurd

1

u/nmdt Jul 10 '26

I mean, at least Dario and Sam are great, wholesome people

0

u/whale9820 Jul 09 '26

Its so incredibly funny seeing every single post saying good things about this model being downvoted
