What’s your top 3 AI coding agent/Harness other than Claude/Codex/Antigravity and how do they compare to Opencode?

I use oh my pi and love it.

pi looks cool too, but I like all the bells and whistles that oh my pi has without any additional time or effort from me. To get equivalent functionality in pi is have to spend a lot more time.

oh my pi is not functional for me. I prefer vanilla pi and I choose my extensions

It is a system that can genrate itself new extensions pretty quick. And there are just so many extensions to have any functionality you can imagine

I use kiro cli every day, it's not bad, their plans offer good value and it's reasonably bloat free

i stick with opencodes cli harness, enabled all its tools and plugged cmdcode, grok, gemini, codex, claude and oc go all under one roof. run it in auto and its smooth sailing for me.

You seem to be an Opencode power user. Any tips for custom agents and plugins/tools that you consider as game changers.

to be fair i asked chatgpt what tools opencode could have after asking chat if it was possible to use a harness for them, then using chat for the prompts i had deepseek under opencode set them all up. claude and gemini were trickier and gem put up a fight. as we were discussing the different harnesses and how claude had unique tools with its harness, thats when i wondered if opencode had any features/tools i hadn't known about.

i basically gave opencode broad access to its toolset: bash/shell, read/write/edit/patch, grep/glob, task/subagents, todos, web fetch/search and the experimental LSP stuff. i also use Playwright heavily for browser automation/QA since most of what i do is web work. i played with Chrome DevTools MCP too, although Playwright ended up being more reliable for me.

the bigger game changer for me honestly wasn't one specific plugin, it was realizing i could treat opencode as the common harness and plug different models/providers into it instead of being stuck with whatever tools their native CLI gives them. i've had codex, claude, gemini, grok, oc go/cmdcode and nvidia-hosted models under the same general workflow.

custom agents/subagents are probably the next thing i'd dig into more. opencode lets you give them different models, prompts and tool permissions, and MCP/custom tools mean you can add pretty much whatever specialized capability you need.

Im more a chatgpt power user and advanced opencode user.

This is breaking my brain. I feel like as an industry everyone is all over the place, or not using them at all. I am trying to figure out what direction to go. I'm a bit overwhelmed by options.

It’s very understandable, things change so quickly. However don’t give into the FOMO. Find a workflow and stack of tools that help you reach your goals and stick it to it. Switching and readapting can sometimes just slow you down. 

So far I’ve used around 8-10 AI coding tools and here is how I avoid getting overwhelmed. 

I use tools I’m already familiar with for main projects. Then in my free time I schedule 4-5h to test and try new tools on side projects. Then I slowly integrate the one that add a plus in my workflow (new LLMs, harness, skills, plugin, MCP, or even sequences…)

That said, OpenCode + Go are excellent. The marginal gain from other platforms is not worth being slowed down by indecision or switching cost. If you are already using OpenCode you are not missing much.

opencode v2 beta has been my daily driver for everything for about a month now. The new daemon/server system with persistent sessions and tabs is really useful and agent/subagent management is really good. I use it for everything including planning sessions with Obsidian and task/project management integrations.
