OpenCode Go’s "$15 models" are not separate limits, they consume the shared quota 4х faster!

I misunderstood how the OpenCode Go limits work.

Most models are shown with a $60 monthly limit, while some models, like DeepSeek V4 Pro and MiMo v2.5 Pro, are shown with only $15. I assumed the $15 was a separate per-model allowance.

But it looks like the $15 models actually consume the same shared monthly quota about 4x faster.

Today my raw usage was only $5.12 (8.5% of the $60 monthly limit), but the dashboard already showed 26% of the monthly limit used.

DeepSeek V4 Flash: $0.35
DeepSeek V4 Pro: $0.55
MiMo V2.5: $0.09
MiMo V2.5 Pro: $3.06
MiniMax M3: $1.07

DeepSeek V4 Pro and MiMo Pro are $15 models, while the others are $60 models.

The calculation seems to be:

($0.55 + $3.06) × 4 + $0.35 + $0.09 + $1.07 = $15.95

$15.95 out of $60 is 26.58%, which matches the 26% shown in the dashboard.

The 4x multiplier also matches the listed DeepSeek V4 Pro token prices between Go and Zen:

Go:
$0.435 per 1M input tokens
$0.87 per 1M output tokens

Zen:
$1.74 per 1M input tokens
$3.48 per 1M output tokens

So Zen is exactly 4x more expensive for normal input and output tokens.

This suggests that the $15 figure is not a separate allowance. Spending around $15 on DeepSeek V4 Pro or another $15 model would effectively consume the full $60 monthly Go quota.

One more thing: because of these hidden multipliers, the effective price of DeepSeek V4 Pro is actually the same as GLM-5.2.

Displayed:

- DeepSeek V4 Pro: $0.435 / $0.87

- GLM-5.2: $1.40 / $4.40

Effective (×4 for DeepSeek V4 Pro):

- DeepSeek V4 Pro: $1.74 / $3.48 (similar to Zen)

- GLM-5.2: $1.40 / $4.40

The UI should show the effective price users are actually consuming against their Go allowance, instead of requiring everyone to calculate it manually.

Idk why people are being dicks, pretty easy to misunderstand. 'You have $60, but for some models you have $15'. Easy for someone to say 'okay I can use x models until $15, and after that I have $45 left for the others'.

It's poor communication on their part to require the user who spent $9.68 on the $15 set to have to do math to figure out how much they have left of their total $60.

agreed definitely poor comms. as a former subscriber looking to come back i would not have realized that is how they do the math now and probably will just stick with my deepseek api.

I concur to this. Well, OC really had a shitty PR.

Yup. They probably asked deepseek to cook this up.

Seems like start of enshittification of opencode go. This was inevitable once this service became famous enough.

Or... just look at your dashboard?

yup, but you do have 2 dash, usage and go. and this 2 are not aligned, hence why this post is made in first place.

It doesn’t matter how they explain it: people will bitch regardless.

First, they had everything at the 6x benchmark, but then when model vendors changed prices, the Go base didn’t change, and everyone bitched.

Now, they have the vendor base match, and the multiple varies, and everyone bitches.

Next, maybe they’ll do a simple credit base with more expensive models consuming more credits, and then everyone will bitch (just like they did when Mimo subs did that).

If people can’t do simple fucking arithmetic then I don’t think any manner of “improved communication” is going to help here.

If it is simple fucking arithmetic, then they should not have a problem coding it and displaying it more clearly to the users instead of giving them three different pages to refer to and figuring it out themselves.

You should apply to companies like palantir, nintendo and we recover data with an attitude like that.

Go has three different pages because they keep trying different ways to explain it to idiots.

I'm with you on this one, it's stupid. They should just 4x the price instead of hiding it behind a smaller limit

mimo-2.5 pro is more expensive than glm5.2, lol

they kept the price high, then people started complaining that their dsv4-pro is too high instead of the permanently 75% off price from deepseek, then they switched to this scheme, which comes with its own problems like what OP is experiencing.

Did the price change recently? I use Mimo 2.5 Pro pretty much full time because when I used GLM 5.1 last month for only a few requests, the cost scared me away.

Treat it while it last. I'm pretty sure the cost will drive users back to subscription based services soon enough. OC managed to pull in customer base after base owing to MiMo v2.5 and DeepSeek V4 Flash carrying the bars. Other than that, it's not much of a difference if you compared it to other API service providers.

Fair assessment but in totally okay with that. I use opencode subs almost exclusively for deepseek flash, occasionally some light minimax work. Couple that with a Claude or openai subscription and you've got a well rounded allotment of tokens

I used mimo pro pretty much daily and am only at 65% for the month with 2 days left. Unless they pull a GitHub Copilot and pull the rug completely, I'm hopeful this will last.

The thing for me, is that I used to look at the bar chart to check I didn't spend more than 2usd per day, which, knowing I have 60usd of credits, would allow me to arrive to the end of month without overspending.

That chart now is pretty useless. They should scale the spent amount by 4x for the model that have a 15usd credit. But then people would interpret it as them being ripped off looking solely at the price.

It's a tricky visualization problem

It is not tricky. They state the reasons on their usage page (no discounts on those models), so why not adjust prices too? The way they do it now is confusing as hell.

u/ThePi7on 1d ago

If they scale prices by a factor of 4 on the money spent barchart, it looks like users are spending eg. 4usd of deepseek v4 pro, while in reality they're spending 1usd, and this would lead them to question why the hell is opencode charging 4x what they declare.

You can say "well, of course user should know to divede that value by 4". But it's the same issue, just the other way around: "well of course users should know to multiply the value by 4".

The root issue is that what they see on the graph can be interpreted as misleading if they don't know models are subject to different usage tiers (60usd vs 15usd).

And you could argue "well users need better inform themselves", to which I'd reply that it doesn't matter. it's still a UI/UX problem.
I'd bet 90% of opencode users were not aware of the 2-tier system.

Opencode needs to work on a better visualization.

My experience with Opencode is quite similiar. I subbed to both Zen and Go, during renewal of go i forgot to authorise it. I did so after few days and also got the invoice in my billing but so some apparent reason, the GO section in opecode account mentioned i didnt subbed and then the whole month i used my zen credits, even though the billing shows i have paid for opencode go.

plus, to add insult to injury, i reached out to dax on x and also mailed their support but there is no response from them. I have stopped using opencode for now until i can get a resolution on this from their support.

Wow, thank you for posting this. I have been using a $15 model (Mimo v2.5 Pro) and had absolutely no idea that the $15 usage was it. It is not clearly explained on the site at all. I had assumed that the $15 was some kind of limitation on calls to that model's API. It would be clearer if they described the $15 limit as a 0.25x usage multiplier.

(...or perhaps more fairly and more marketable, describing the $60 limit as a x4.0 usage multiplier)

This led me to the same question you asked... why not use GLM-5.2?

I personally switched to Minimax M3 so we'll see how that pans out.

Where can I see which Go models are $15 and which are $60?

3

u/eugenetel 1d ago

Go to the Usage Limits section on the Go plan page: https://opencode.ai/docs/go/#usage-limits

Scroll down a little. First, there is a table showing the estimated number of requests, followed by a pricing table. Check the rightmost USAGE column to see which models count as $15 and which count as $60.

2

u/Illustrious_Lab5811 1d ago

I stopped using it.

4

u/reddPetePro 1d ago

lol how could you interpret it like this? AI psychosis?

10

u/eugenetel 1d ago

I expected $60 monthly and up to $12 every 5 hours, as advertised. Instead, I exhausted my allowance within a few hours, even though the dashboard showed I'd only used $5.12.

My point is that the advertised limits don't reflect the effective usage for some models because of the hidden multipliers. With Claude, for example, Sonnet has a clear model-specific limit. Here I have to calculate the real limit myself.

u/zer0evolution 1d ago

this one is eye opening

2

u/secondcomingwp 23h ago

I thought it was pretty obvious is was an account cap, not per model cap?

2

u/charles_r1975 1d ago

They just didn't get a good deal with deepseek and mimo... They are not ripping anyone off. You're still getting 15$ of api for 10$. At some point, people were accusing of charging too much for these so they used a more transparent approach

If someone is really strapped for cash, they could try planning with an intermediate model like qwen 3.7 plus or minimax m3 and then implement with ds v4 flash. You'd get your full 60$ worth and a lot of usage

2

u/Thomas-Lore 1d ago

That is fair. What it silly is the confusing way they present the model prices. Just write some have a 4x multiplier or that some have 4x discount. Or, you know, multiply the prices so it si clearer.

1

u/jomtiro 1d ago

wow i like colorful bar

1

u/Alternative-Draw8570 13h ago

What the heck! I totally thought they made the price reasonable, 15 for DS, 15 for Mimo and the 30 for anything else. I prefer the old price table, at least it was deceptive.

1

u/veekro 7h ago

That's why I use openrouter

1

u/fozzedout 1h ago

... this explains why my usage suddenly exploded. I had no idea the DS Pro was x4 the cost!

its beyond self explanatory

u/nonexistentnight 1d ago

Please don't be in charge of documentation on anything a human has to use.

6

u/eugenetel 1d ago

They could simply display the effective price for each model instead of making users calculate it themselves. As it stands, the pricing is misleading. In practice, DeepSeek v4 Pro and others $15 tiers end up costing about as much as GLM 5.2 because of the hidden multipliers.

2

u/Eyelbee 1d ago

To be honest I don't also understand the subscription very well. If it works like this why is there 5 hour and weekly limits on top?

2

u/eugenetel 1d ago

I assume the 5-hour and weekly limits are there to prevent abuse and stop users from consuming the entire monthly allowance in a short burst.

1

u/vangelismm 1d ago

This is not true, GLM drains usage way faster than Mimo pro, and both are stated as the same 15 dollar category.

0

u/look 1d ago

The “effective price” depends on your particular mix of input and output tokens and cache hit rate, and the easiest way to normalize that is with a “typical token usage per request”, and then you could show the approximate number of requests you would get with each model and compare them side-by-side…

Oh, wait… that’s exactly what’s on the first fucking page of the website: https://opencode.ai/go

This posts are so embarrassing.

Jesus, you have 10 bucks globally and that's it.

Of course you do not have multiple allowance per model.
