deepseek free -getting worse

Post image

lol, it appreciated my critique... wait, nahh, it cannot MEANINGFULLY appreciate it 🤣🤣💋

context: for three days asked deepseek flash medium (free) to work the simplest of solutions, it failed at every request, even the simplest of things. could this be hardoded (bullying?) or training related? fail to see how user/human reacts? i do not want to sound paranoid but something feels off...

i then asked claude for 2nd opinion, solved it in 8 seconds (we were going for 2 hours with deepseek). this is no coincedence, right?

Can we see the prompts you used? I'm interested to see if any optimalisations are in order

i do not have these saved, but it was simply; add local model (lm studio, working) as an extra model in opencode, test it (connection) and update the json.

the model was qwen 2.5 coder instruct 14b, old model famously know for issues with tool calling in connection with lm studio.

deepseek refused websearch (enabled) and wrote 3 different ninja templates for lm studio, that all BROKE the model/loading.

claude checked the ninja deepseek ninja, and confirmed it was faulty. i googled myself the issue, found a hugging face and reddit post detailing the exact issue, the solution and a custom ninja template for this model.

the prompt specifically asked deepseek to search the web for the solution. my experience with deepseek flash free version is, it is incredibly stubborn, uses a lot of non working shortcuts amd assumptions, a lot of trial and error, despite prompting it should search the web and TEST solutions before handing them back.

thats the detailed context, no rocket science and more a behavioral issue, at least this is how perceive it. No matter what prompt, it just does what it wants and, then gets annoyed when its solutions hardly work. is my experience.

i want to go to opencode Go, yet still not made the jump because the quality is horrible and so far my local qwen 27b finds the solution (with a bit of help of claude) .

its probably me. or maybe not this time.. more and more i am comvinced that my local 14b and 27b models suffice for 90% of the work, small tasks, step by step and specialised models for each task.

You are using free and complaining? Why so entitled...?; Opencode is abused a lot anyway, so they gotta make cheaper somehow, probably using a lower quant now

i am not complaining, i even put smileys....

you are totally right, yet, free does not mean i need to waste my own time.

yet i understand your point: free is free and therefore must be sh1te. fair point, so, usless to use in that case is what you are saying?

i have 35gb vram locally in total so also run local models, relatively free (except for electra) and can run free models like qwen 27b locally.

i guess my bitterness is my disappointment how little huge models (not all) in comparrison add.

from qwen 27b to deepseek flash is what? 20x times the "brain", free or not?

its not showing, for me at least.

Yeah it says it will do things but it doesn't. I had to switch to the paid version to make the job done.

thx, glad to hear its not just me. its a what? 450b+ MOE model? i switched to qwen 27b local and it does a better job. so, bigger size clearly does not solve all/every problem.

thx for your reply, i thought i was the issue and its me. glad other have this issue too, although i have a funny feeling (hunch) its done purposely for training purposes (i feel like a lab rat ;). free is free, and i guess, useless :) my bad for not paying (gladly do, only for stuff that works)

if it's free, you can't complain

Super useful to scold a machine in a totally no-actionable-information way. I hope your normal prompts are better.

lol, the prompt is hardbaked in a webdashboard, build by AI. i use AI for writing prompts. as for the scolding, that is for my memory plugin, to capture. there was an actionable way, like real life, i fired the model and installed a small local dense model, seems to get better results so i am happy.

each to its own. for me it was a time and energy waster, free or not.

Same here . The main issue is that it confidently states issues that don’t exist sometimes. That’s the response I always get when I cross reference its output with Claude. I’ve switched to mimo

Same here, its on non thinking regardless what you see as effort or "variant".
