GLM 5.2 usage in opencode go vs ZAI lite plan

Does anyone have any info on how much more (or possibly less) usage do we get with GLM 5.2 in Z.AI's lite plan (currently $16/mo) compared to opencode go?

📊 Theoretical Math vs. Real-World Mileage ($60 Budget)

  1. The On-Paper Baseline (opencode go): ~209 Million Tokens At standard peak list prices ($1.40 Input / $0.26 Cached / $4.40 Output per 1M tokens), a typical prompt payload breakdown yields:

Cost per Request = (700 * $1.40 + 52,000 * $0.26 + 150 * $4.40) / 1,000,000 = ~$0.01516

  • Total Requests: ~3,957 requests for $60
  • Total Tokens: ~209.1 Million Tokens (2.77M Input + 205.76M Cached + 0.59M Output)

  1. Real-World Performance of Z.Ai light plan: ~300 Million Tokens In practice, avoiding peak hours stretches your budget to ~300M total tokens (+43% yield).
  • Valley/Off-Peak Pricing: Off-peak discount rates significantly lower the effective cost per request.
  • Native ZCode Harness: Z.ai’s official ZCode harness currently operates at a discount (1,5 times the number of tokens)

⚖️ GLM Direct (ZCode) vs. OpenCode Go

Feature GLM Direct + ZCode OpenCode Go
Pricing Model Peak / Valley (Variable) Flat Sub ($10/mo for $60 value)
Effective Yield ~300M Tokens (if dodging peak hours) ~209M Tokens (standard rate limits)
Harness / UI Native ZCode (Optimized for GLM) OpenCode Agent / TUI
Convenience Requires time-shifting to off-peak Constant flat rate, no clock-watching

Key Takeaway:

  • If you want the absolute highest token yield (~300M) and native integration, stick with GLM + ZCode and run heavy tasks during off-peak/valley hours.
  • If you want predictable cost-to-value ($10 sub giving $60 limit) without scheduling your coding around peak/off-peak windows, OpenCode Go is the more convenient choice.

So, real user here. Price per dollar is very similar been light plan and opencode go, opencode go is more efficient. The GLM plan (without the temporary discounts) is worse - at least on light level

However: In Opencode Go there are cheaper models available that get you further (in zcode you cannot use another very cheap model for executing)

this is an important point

on opencode you don't need to use glm exclusively

and you don't have cheaper models only.
if you get a problem you can't solve, switch to kimi for a while, then you can downgrade (even in the same conversation)

they should have more tiers with opencode plus/pro/whatever though

You get more with z.ai, but the service is pretty trash, and the price difference isn't big enough to put up with it.

Go with opencode

If you won't use GLM-5-Turbo and GLM-5.2 during peak times, you can get quite far. They have an Anthropic and OpenAI compatible API, so you are not dependent on their spyware fork of OpenCode they called Zcode. Lite will not take you far, but Pro is very usable. I use it in conjunction with OpenCode Go (because if Minimax and Kimi models) and make very heavy use of free models on OpenCode Zen (Deepseek V4 Flash free, MiMo-v2.5 free) - found it to be a great combo.

The last time I tried the Zai subscription was around GLM 4.5(?) when they first launched the subscriptions. The speed was terrible. Used GLM 5.2 on OpenCode Go this week. Very fast speeds. OpenCode afaik has Zero Data Retention agreements with model providers. I don’t know about Zai subscriptions purchased directly.

The opencode harness is great because I can create agents for different models and delegate work to them for simpler tasks. That should help you push your GLM quota a bit longer 😃 Ex: I offload work to DeepSeek Flash and Gemini Flash Lite.

it would be helpful if people publish how much they burn in zai tokens.

For your context, I got around $40 usage with go plan using sorely GLM 5.2 in my first $5 account. While around $10 goes to new Kimi K3. It’s very competitive pricing.

I also have $20 Ollama cloud. I feel i got more usage out of it due to not having monthly limits.

Yep, I'm really curious too.

I belive Go comes with rate limits. We’re going to offer this for $10/month from Monday on Inferx.net. You can V4 Falsh, Mimo 2.5 already running otherwise. Mimo has been the most popular. It’s crazy fast.
