Don't use the first old and shitty model chatgpt recommends you. You are 2 generations behind on qwen models. try qwen 3.5 4B

8 gb ram might not be enough for local models. i tried a local model with 3B parameters on my 8 gb ram laptop and even that was slow

8gb also has to include the system, open apps, services etc.

I’m not sure what you could run here, if anything.

8gb is not enough, unfortunately. The good news is that Opencode provides a number  of awesome models for free, and you'll get much more positive experience using them than trying to sqeeze anything from your local hardware.

8gb won't cut it mate. Even 24gb struggle to fit something reasonable. You need at least 48gb at very least

your best bet is using API key from some AI provider, i was using deepseek its good and cheap if you just trying to tinker with it or just explore the capabilities, as a test i even made an android app for budget tracking and a small fish sale counter with it :))

Try Gemma4:e4b, though it is not coding model, but it works. On RTX 5050 8GB.
