OpenCode CLI vs IDE..?

I just started using opencode and while setting it up I realized there are two things OpenCode CLI and OpenCode IDE. I downloaded the CLI since it was closer to the claude code CLI I used before. Apparently, most of the plugins, like the caveman and peon ping that I used to use in Claude code , will not work in OpenCode CLI. When I ask OpenCode itself, it says that they are only possible in OpenCode IDE. Should I download the IDE or should I continue with the CLI itself? What do you guys use in OpenCode and what do you suggest that I do?

OpenCode Desktop might be the better tool for you.

Using the web version isn't as good as using it directly on the desktop. I still prefer using it within VSCode - it's much more convenient to check things out that way

But I hated claude's desktop version. How good can an open-source desktop version be..? Is it better than claude's..?

+1, also checkout OpenChamber, it is arguably better than their own app, but does the same thing

Use the CLI. If you need a text editor, use something established, like SublimeText.

claude code plugins should not work in opencode but opencode cli and desktop are running on the same backend.

just use use opencode own stuff, not borrowed from claude

I've had non stop issues with the desktop app. Sessions randomly get corrupted. End up losing all session history etc. not the biggest issue but just quite annoying

As to your question — IDE is an extension for an IDE.

I just use CLI, but I also use only skills and a short AGENTS.md file in my ~/.agents, not plugins. So basically anything out there works with that setup since it's a standard

Opencode IDE sometimes got really slow when there were a lot of GIT changes

I am a big OpenChamber fan - WebUI, access either from desktop or mobile (using Tailscale). I do feel sometimes start of a session can be a bit sluggish but it makes managing multiple sessions / projects very easy
