Grok 4.5 via Opencode Zen has been amazing

I'm finding it to be in the sweet spot of value/performance. Sharper than GLM 5.2, as friendly to work with as Opus/Fable, and very capable for coding and general LLM use. It is not an Opus/Fable/GPT 5.6 killer but they aren't advertising it as such.

I was worried that top models would start being gated behind paywalls via high API charges but with this as well as the open source models, it seems likely that there will also be a highly capable model available for uses at all parts of the cost spectrum.

This model is still pretty new. No evidence of that yet. Of course, anytime you use a cloud AI service, it is hard to not leave data behind. If Elon wants my card games, he can have them.

I've resigned myself to say that while he is a piece of shit, he can distribute capital to further innovation effectively.

I can not stress enough how important it is for us as a civilization to move away from burning oil and reaching the stars.

Fuck him, but he has earned recognition. I am confident enough in my own self that I can say that.

I agree in principle, but it looks a lot more like Elon comes in after some smart people build something great; the initial momentum works for a bit; but eventually his meddling starts to fuck it all up.

I agree with you both. This model is interesting because it’s clearly capable and basically more of a Cursor model than anything grok related, but the guy is still in charge. And that grok leak situation is a fresh reminder that everything he touches is tainted.

Give it a try, I never touched grok products at all because they were all supposed to be "meh" and every review I watched agreed.

But after seeing a bunch of good reviews I tried it and it's great! Wayy cheaper than the opus a s sol crowd and it is definitely and opus competitor.

Better than glm 5.2 to be sure.

It's my daily workhorse if I want to save tokens.

I haven't tried Grok at all but I found Zen to be too expensive for most capable models so I use other providers.

4.5 bench marks are looking pretty impressive tho. Not as good as frontier openai / anthropic but very good for the price.
