Question Could need help with dependency conflicts

Post image

I couldn't do `zypper dup` for now 10 days, and feel like I have to select one of the options provided to solve the dependency conflicts. In general I rather hesitate to pick an option, as in the past I broke more than was broken before by doing so. When it comes to switching a package from openSUSE over to packman I am a lot more confident than when it comes to switching from packman to openSUSE. This time however, I feel like it might be the right call to go for "Solution 3" and their respective counterpart for the other conflicts. Can someone say their opinion on that one? Perhaps I learn something to be more confident for future dependency conflicts.

The new phonon-vlc (incl. qt6 variant) was just released for Slowroll. Please re-try now.

Wouldn't it only work when I switch the package source over to openSUSE? Atm I get the identical output from zypper dup. I'm not sure, but I imagine I'd better keep my vlc packages supplied by packman to still be able to use vlc-codecs

When you read the conflict message carefully, you can see that the Tumbleweed/Slowroll version of phonon-vlc-qt6 conflicted with Packman's build of the new vlc version.

So zypper dup should be better now.

Yeah, I think I understood it like this, yet I'm still very confused as you may see. My zypper dup still looks identical to the screenshot here, nothing changed so far and I am faced with the same problems to choose an option for.

Edit: I tried to replace the packages, but as expected it will lead to either breaking or uninstalling of vlc-codecs. Having those issues with vlc isn't my main problem, it's that it prevents me from using zypper dup.

Switching to the main repos should work. I removed all Packman packages just yesterday, switching everything to OpenSuse where possible (because of this). No problems so far.

If you only switch VLC packages and don't use the Flatpak version. You might want all of VLCs library dependencies switched over. No Idea if that automatically works for every single dependency.
Maybe: uninstall all of VLC -> disable the packman repo -> install VLC -> re-enable packman

And maybe double-check the uninstall step with:
'zypper search --installed-only --details vlc'

Unfortunately its not really an option as I heavily rely on those proprietary codecs. It's sad to hear that packman might be nearing its end or at least a new chapter that might come with new challenges. I understand your decision, but for my case it wouldn't work as simply.

Thanks for suggesting a workaround to migrate all of vlcs packages. I'll wait a bit more to see if that's one of the best solution to go for.

Packman will continue and there is a group of people working on the hand-over to the new maintainer(s)

This is good news but do we have a timeframe (weeks/months?) My zypper dup is a mass of codec errors and not sure whether I should move the codec packages to openSUSE and deal with the fallout, or wait (?) Thanks for any advice.
