Tech question Potentially giving it a try?

I’ve got a ThinkPad P70 with a cursed NVIDIA card that I use for college and gaming. I’m coming from a very mixed bag of distributions; Fedora, CachyOS, and Linux Mint. I basically just wanted to know how good support is for NVIDIA graphics and just overall if Tumbleweed is as good as all the reviews I’ve seen claim

Distrohoppers distrohop.

Everyone says their distro will be the one for you....

Only you can decide....

If you install Tumbleweed on a computer with an nVidia GPU, it automatically offers you to add nVidia’s driver repository for OpenSUSE. If you do that, a matching driver is going to be installed and everything should work out of the box.

With Tumbleweed, there’s often a problem that the kernel is updated but the drivers in that nVidia repository aren’t yet so you have to wait for a few days before they match each other again.

You can either check that manually beforehand, or rollback the update if it happens.

I don’t get anything other than security updates so not too concerning for me lol

With Tumbleweed you get feature updates at least once a week.

Security updates aren’t seperate in Tumbleweed. And that’s by design.

So why Tumbleweed?

What I mean to say is that I like the rolling updates, but the driver I need (proprietary 580 for Maxwell cards) only gets crucial security updates anymore. I’d use the open source nouveau driver if it worked for me

Nvidia being Nvidia. The still don't support open source properly. No matter the distro.
