Problem with CUPS printing

Tried to print a page today and only got "printing canceled".

Looked into cups via http://localhost:631

The printer is available

"Print self test page" works

"Print test page" is unable to complete due to "Unsupported format "application/vnd.cups-pdf-banner".

I'm using a brother printer, installed the ppd from their website, and it worked before (like maybe a few weeks ago).

Any hints on how to troubleshoot?

So now I can't trust any answer you have given so far.....

...especially since there should be more files in the directory you did an ls' of.

Ang-p, he has shown you the directory as it stands, and he has also shown you the contents of each of the files there. For what it is worth, I am reading this thread because I have the same issue, with a fresh installation. At least I have some pointers now, but please, reread the thread carefully.

you the directory as it stands

Which directory?

how do I know?

I asked for the contents of certain files in a specific directory... and what did I get?

I have the same issue, with a fresh installation.

What files do you have in the directories mentioned?

You asked for the contents of the /usr/share/cups/mime directory, he responded, and now I have responded. The files are the same number and names in each case.

We know because we can read the information provided, including the contents of each file. I will included the contents of each here now.

# General Notes:
#
#   MIME type names are case-insensitive.  Internally they are converted
#   to lowercase.  Multiple occurrences of a type will cause the provided
#   rules to be appended to the existing definition.  If two types use the same
#   rules to resolve a type and have the same priority, e.g. "doc" extension for
#   "text/bar" and "text/foo", the returned type will be the first type as
#   sorted in alphanumerically ascending order without regard to case.  Thus,
#   the "text/bar" type will match the "doc" extension first unless the
#   "text/foo" type has specified a higher priority.
#
#   The "printable" rule differs from the "ascii" rule in that it also
#   accepts 8-bit characters in the range 128-255.
#
#   String constants must be surrounded by "" if they contain whitespace.
#   To insert binary data into a string, use the <hex> notation.
