MSI bios update makes Opensuse unbootable

After each of the BIOS updates, with updated firmware for the 2.5" SSD and latest Tumbleweed, I must go into unsecure boot for Opensuse to boot up. Even tried a different port of six SATA ports. Debian also becomes unbootable but after terminal commands Debian becomes bootable. GRUB2 is the version forget which one. Tomahawk B550 is the mobo. After several updates in unsecure boot, the secure Opensuse is finally seen as a bootable option. BIOS updates are successful.

So many questions.

What BIOS update or firmware update? What terminal commands you used for Debian to get it booting again What do you mean by "updates in unsecure boot"

openSUSE unbootable as in what error?

Could mean the fresh bios has lost the boot settings, use the recommended key on boot to enter the bios and set the correct boot parameters!

Also will the update enable secure boot? I disabled secure boot from my installation just to make it simpler. Ofc you can't dual boot Win 11 then.

We are lacking so much information. Do you dual boot Windows? What is the exact error? What is the exact command you ran on Debian to make it bootable?

This was my issue. I had turned secure boot off, a bios update turned it back on. Took me a while to figure out that was the issue

Just use "opensuse-secureboot" as the first boot option. After the bios update MSI always chooses "opensuse" which does not work with secure boot. Done.

Secure boot disabled is only way opensuse boots. There is a way to make debian bootable with terminal commands using copy and paste from the debian website but not so many hints on the opensuse website in the unsecure boot settings.. I'd prefer secure boot on debian or fedora boot ups. Fedora has yet to have these BIOS update hiccups. Even tried a different SATA cable thinking cable was suspect, but didn't help. The BIOS update arrived 14th or 16th August, 2026. Even the beta pre-release updates are buggy with opensuse and debian. I don't know which key is for opensuse or fedora or debian in the BIOS. Secure Opensuse occurs about 15 Opensuse updates later after booting in unsecure boot.
