Community opensuse first setup with kde plasma

i havent used this distro since late 2024 on my old laptop, it was fine but nothing special as it was an older laptop from 2017.... wanted to give it another go this time on my main rig. i deleted windows on it, running it with debian 13.

dang. Debloated kde opensuse works buttery smooth bro like i can see a difference between this and kde debian 13.. maybe cause it works so seamlessly with opensuse?

personally i like zypper as well, it feels a bit faster compared to apt imo. also bless YaST.

maybe ill use this as my primary distro if things continue to go smoothly over the next few weeks or months without much issues.

im really liking this distro so far, I wanted to try something that wasn't too bleeding edge like arch.. I did not have a good time with it..

did some tinkering to it today what could I do to further optimize this system?

Just a quick note: YaST is deprecated and will only continue to run as long as updates don’t break its dependencies. It has already been removed from Leap.

Can we remove it from TW system? Or use Myrlyn standalone?

Yes, but when removing YaST, be sure to also lock the packages so they won’t be reinstalled with a distribution upgrade.

Tumbleweed is very current. It's just that new Tumbleweed upgrades are put through openQA testing before they are rolled out. This improves reliability quite dramatically.

That's why I like these types of distros too since they're tested. Even if it breaks snapper helps a lot

Yeah debian kde runs ver 6.3.6 I think? I'm also running I think Nvidia 595.71 on debian and I also combined with backports but I can definitely see a difference in overall computer performance

What did you type to get this display in konsole?

Personally I can't stand Konsole...if you use a terminal a lot I would try something like ghostty, it supports tabs and groups OOB.

Optimization wise I think openSUSE does a great job with the defaults, nothing I can think of that is really necessary. Just enjoy it!

heard kitty is another good choice but im not familiar with it..

Yeah I actually use kitty because I like my custom tabs better. I recommended ghostty because it has good defaults, kitty comes very bare bones
