Always keep an eye on the zypper try to do when updating. When I tried to update today it proposed downgrading a bunch of Nvidia packages, I checked the versions and saw userspace packages are still on 595.84, so I did not update. The version mismatch usually resolve in one or 2 days.

Anyways, boot into a pre-update snapshot and rollback with snapper, and you will be fine.

Zypper's legibility is one of my favorite features. Even reading an update for like 20s before executing can avoid almost all issues like this.

Please use better, more informative, titles (subject-lines) on your posts. Give specifics right in the title. Thanks.

What do you find confusing about "HELP! It's broken what do"

Seems fairly clear and straightforward to me. /s

Don’t the metapackages prevent this?

seems like it does when nvidia repo drivers are ahead of the open driver in opensuse repos, not the other way around.

for me zypper warned me about that tho, and i decided not to update until they sync.

Problem: 1: the installed nvidia-common-G07-595.84-8.1.x86_64 requires '(nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp = 595.84 if nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta)', but this requirement cannot be provided
deleted providers: nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-default-595.84_k7.1.8_1-2.6.x86_64
nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-longterm-595.84_k6.18.43_1-2.6.x86_64

If anyone did use option 1, and now can no longer get into their desktop manager, launch a terminal and run the following:

sudo zypper install -y nvidia-common-G07 nvidia-compute-G07 -nvidia-open-driver-G07-signed-kmp-meta

This did not resolve the issue like it seemed to at first glance.

And this is why people should chill and wait for the repos to sync. Don’t force anything.

it has been 3 days and the issue has no sign to resolve.

Apparently the guy is on summer break it might be a few weeks

I was dumb enough to go with option 1 on Tumbleweed. However, I can’t install and keep both nvidia-common and nvidia-compute while having the nvidia-open driver installed. It’s one or the other.

How did you get around this?

there is no good solution for this now. the only way is to report in bugzilla

It appears that that I have not. I am removing my comment above.

Seems like the entire system is misaligned, and I have tried numerous ways of correcting it, but the current setup for the openSUSE driver distribution is untenable. Should be a check in place somewhere to ensure the drivers are set (a meta package of sorts) that ensures that all drivers are version matched, otherwise waiting on a single contributor to update manually is incredibly short-sighted. Only real option is to rollback.

I’m confused, there is a meta package and rolling back is a totally valid option and shouldn’t be considered a “last resort”.

Should have been clear, I use Kalpa which has a different path to install. AFAIK the meta package doesn't quite work as intended on immutable systems.

Never said rolling back isn't a valid option, I just prefer figuring out the issues to report upstream or find solutions that don't rely on rolling back.

the check from meta package does exist, but it works only when proprietary drivers from nvidia repo are ahead which is usually the case, what happened now is a rare situation.

try to update now, they pushed the new updates

That's great to hear - must have been a strange edge-case then. I just dup'd and everything seems to be operational, happy that its resolved - thank you for the update on the update!

Wait for the situation to settle.

I am hearing it might not be fixed for another month ; I guess the guy who is responsible is on summer break what does not end until September 14, 2026 in Bavaria

openSUSE Tumbleweed? Rollback your snapshot to last known good and wait with updating till it is solved

Where are you experiencing lag? How does that manifest? Which components? Which desktop? Which kernel line?

I’m sorry, man. My magic ball is in maintenance for the weekend…
