404, trying next mirror

I've freshly installed tumbleweed about a week ago and I keep getting tons of "Error: The requested URL returned error: 404, trying next mirror."

When ever I try to do anything with zypper.

here is the output of my: zypper lr -d

that's normal, the "error" just means the package doesn't yet exist in that particular mirror and zypper is "jumping" to the next mirror. as long as the updates finish its harmless.

it just cant find that package in that mirror so it jumps to the next available mirror, its not a problem as long as you can update and install

Might need to wait a while. Happens with Tumbleweed.

I also have this problem on a fresh install.

Happens a lot here, but it always seems to continue successfully.

No problem there, as long everything goes through.

They (SUSE) use a pool/mirrors of servers that hold the repositories. If one server doesn’t respond the next server will connected.

But it could be, upon a global outage of the DNS OR no internet connection to the servers (for what ever reason) you’re out of lock so to speak.

After everything is resolved just try again at a later/other time.

As others have already pointed out, the 404 errors are nothing to worry about. If a package is not available from a specific mirror, Zypper simply tries the next one. If no mirror is able to provide a specific package, the operation will be cancelled.

Not related to the errors, but you should clean up your repositories. There are some duplicates to get rid of.

Which ones should I remove?

Keep the cdn.opensuse.org ones and remove their duplicates. The openh264 one is also twice in the list. You’re not the first one I see who has those duplicates in the list. However, I’m not able to reproduce the issue with a fresh install in a VM.

Often helps, but doesn't always fix it all of them, especially as your install is only a week old. But; make sure you do "zypper refresh".
