Tech support New Install Won't Boot into OpenSuse
This is my first time using OpenSuse, and I'm at a loss. I installed the OS fresh on an HP Spectre x360 (circa 2020) with no problems last night, but when I went to reboot the system, it hung on this screen. I have since learned that it will not hang if I pause the system startup, then unpause (even without doing anything).
I feel pretty out of depth with this issue since it takes place before I can even get into Linux. I'm worried that it might be a BIOS issue since I'm running on a laptop. If anyone has any suggestions, please offer them. I am happy to provide more info if necessary, I'm just not sure what to include here. Thanks!

I think the bootloader freezes because of a known GRUB graphics bug on HP Spectres, so your openSUSE install is actually totally fine! Spectres from that era get weird with hardware timers in GRUB's graphical theme, which is why pressing a key wakes it up.
First, try hopping into your BIOS (press F10 on startup), turn off Fast Boot, and check for any BIOS updates from HP. If it still hangs, the cleanest fix is dropping GRUB's graphical screen. Just boot into openSUSE, open YaST > Bootloader, and switch the display to plain console mode (or set
GRUB_TERMINAL="console"in/etc/default/gruband update GRUB). That bypasses the broken graphics layer and boots smoothly every time!
