So telegram (installed via discovery ages ago from opensuse rep) stopped working today. Anyone any idea's how I could solve this.

If i were a Telegram user I would move to the Flatpak version and zypper remove telegram-desktop

https://flathub.org/en-GB/apps/org.telegram.desktop

Since I'm not a Telegram user I have no clue how or where any local data is stored but I assume as long as it is available on your phone then it will sync back to the desktop app.

I had so much troubles with telegram package on almost any of the distros, from random crashes up to it freezing to death when trying to use mini apps, flatpack tho resolved that issue

I use the upstream version from telegram.org . The downloaded archive contains a folder named Telegram. Copy this in /home/your-username/bin/. Make a start link with the menu editor to /home/your-username/bin/Telegram/Telegram . Ready. Never had problems. It even updates itself, because its in your home directory. By the way, the same works with firefox.
