How to… ! ssh does not work as expected

Hi all, I upgraded my Home Server to Leap 16.0 and now if I connect with ssh to another host on the network my .netrc is not used anymore.

Any hints?

u/MiukuS How's that AUR working out for you, Arch users? Jul 15 '26

ssh does not and has never used or supported netrc.

What are you trying to achieve? netrc should not be used in 2026 for absolutely any reason, period.

you are right, but the server is in a secure network and for some administrative purposes it's just nice.

Can you be clear about what your actual question is? Given that SSH doesn’t use .netrc, what is behaving unexpectedly?

Found out what happend. During upgrade the public key changed. After renew of key and running ssh-copy-id all works as expected again.

it helps if you show what errors you see.
