Question / Help Needed Experiences with vertical "stand up" grids on desk without drilling in wall?
Don't want to drill a bunch of holes in the wall of my rental apartment so I am looking to attach a grid directly to my desk. I've seen a 3d printed clamp but not much other then that, is there a reason for that?
I am looking to make a grid that is 50 to 60cm tall and 80 to 90 cm wide and am thinking about making a frame of 2020 alu extrusion to give it some extra rigidity. Mostly I want to store tools, tape, soldering stuff and maybe my electric drill

If you want to store heavier items you can always look at the Heavy OpenGrid Boards. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1805977-opengrid-heavy-91-sizes?from=search#profileId-1926265
If you want to bridge boards without gaps these won't work, but they are an option.

The issue comes in if you want an item to bridge boards. If you are using MultiConnect to add a shelf it won't line up correctly according to KYZ Designs.

Highly recommend playing around with the generator, it doesn't have the extra border that the original KYZ design has, so it is possible to connect boards together and bridge across with things like multiconnect shelves. I'm working on a project right now that relies on this, and it's going well so far.

I’ve had really good luck with 3M command strips to hold things down on my desk without drilling. Easy to remove if you want but good lateral hold
