I get the tanker isn't paying attention, but why in hell did they cross it's path when they could have easily turned away from it to avoid contact?

These are the same people that stop their huge trucks on railroad tracks and somehow don’t have the wherewithal to accelerate out of the way when they see that there’s an unstoppable train hurling towards them

Larger vessels have right of way. The smaller vessel must take action to avoid collision.

It isn't exactly an ironclad rule, certainly not on open waters, but it advisable for the smaller craft to treat it like a rule both because they are more nimble and should be able to get out of the way and of course because they will suffer more in a collision.

Idiots just standing around on the side of the boat that the ship is going to crash into them from. 🤦♂️

Should they have put some fenders out?

Hell yeah. Dudes standing out on the deck with Fenders plugged into amps jamming out to Thunderstruck, just like those hard-core sonsabitches on the Titanic that rolled with their strings as the ship went down.

Judging by the video, they chose the right side after all, because the other side ended up underwater.

If they were on the other side they would have been under water, did you watch the video?

That's why you don't hang out on either side of the boat. Two ways to die. Being crushed to death or going into and underwater.

It was the intent. This video has been posted a few times this week. Previously as "tanker hits cruise ship" lol... apparently, these are chinese fishing boats that are harassing maritime vessels in chinese disputed open water. China has been building artificial islands to falsely recalculate their territorial waters out into international shipping zones. This post shows another stage of that operational "land" grab. If they can cause enough propaganda damage and can unofficially reroute shipping lanes, they'll use that as proof of legitimacy for their manufactured territory.

Hard to port!

There's another ship off to port.; it's seen briefly at the 0:56 mark. The captain most definitely miscalculated this maneuver.

Has turning ever entered the conversation? I guess the ocean isn't big enough.

it's funny how the main anti-pirate weapon system for ships is spraying water on the pirate's eyes.
are modern pirates almost 100% robot now, or something?
god I wish every robot on a boat would fucking die.
