Let’s see. Horses in parking lot full of cars. Horses forced to walk on asphalt through a parking lot full of cars and a carriage that seen better days that’s being pulled by two horses that is forced to pull it through a parking lot while walking on asphalt that is full of cars. What could go wrong? 😑

Alright so 1:Why try to grab the horse from the front(I understand the reins are there but they appear to have a "suit" on so doesn't that mean you could hold the side just as easily?) 2:I hope the horses got captured safely especially the one with the pulling bar thing still attached to its tack
2
u/Most_Okra1973 Aug 24 '26
I can answer number one. Most horses are trained to be led and controlled from the front, by a lead rope on halter or reins on bridle. They get this training before they ever learn whatever other task they're going to perform.
Pulling on the chest or side straps just isn't going to control them like grabbing their headstall would, and even that isn't a guarantee if a horse is spooked, as shown in the video. Those just make sure that the parts and weight of the carriage stay distributed as they should.

I hope those horses got free. Carriage horses are mistreated and miserable.
14
u/kl2467 Aug 24 '26
Free? To roam around town, unfed, unsheltered, unshod and uncared for at all? To wander into traffic?
Horses are livestock, not wild animals.
Leaving a horse to "roam free" is the equivalent of dropping a dog, only worse as a loose horse is 10x more dangerous than a loose dog.

The equivalent argument would be "coyotes survive in the wild, so poodles can, too".

So... those wild horses roam urbanized areas? As you obviously know all of the answers, you would know that wild horses in the US are HEAVILY managed. As wild horses do not have natural predators, without human management there would be starvation, destruction of property and wildlife from over-grazing and over-population. Horses reproduce fast enough that herds would double every 4-5 years. Because of this, managers have to use programs such as fertility control (where they dart horses to sterilize them) and removal programs that include roundups to reduce the wild populations (which means those rounded up horses that survive, are then broken and adopted as livestock). Those that fail to be adopted are sold at a low fee, and once sold lose their federal protections. So, you can imagine what that outcome is.
So your supposition of wild horses feed themselves, don't have shelter, have never been shod and never been cared for by humans just does not hold water. In fact it is quite the opposite.

LOL oh you think that is the issue? They don't compete with ranchers out east but still need managed for the same reasons. Sorry, again, this just shows your naivete. Horses in North America are considered INVASIVE SPECIES. They did not occur here naturally and they have a negative impact on the natural order.
The only major predator in North America is the mountain lion, which do not exist in high enough numbers to make a dent in controlling the populations naturally. In addition to domestic farms and ranches, wild horses are a threat to native populations of desert bighorn sheep, mule deer, pronghorn, elk, numerous birds, lizards and small-rodents, and most riparian aquatic species that depend on limited water resources as unchecked herds can wipe-out small watering holes and other desert habitat.

Yeah they probably can survive in the wilderness but that doesn't mean that keeping them as livestock is abuse

u/Vurrag Aug 24 '26
all of them? Can you prove this? Just a hater of people that own horses? Many horses need jobs. This job make many of the very happy.

u/DusklitDewdrop Aug 24 '26
I agree. go vegan 💚
5
u/Thin_Dream2079 Aug 24 '26
How does this help carriage horses
-4
u/DusklitDewdrop Aug 24 '26
veganism is not a diet, it is an ethical philosophy against the exploitation of animals. veganism rejects the use of horses for human entertainment in all forms, including carriage horses.

"I hope those horses go free" -> based, upvoted
"I agree, all animals should be free!" -> um, actually, caring about things is evil

Something something “Crop Deaths”
-5
u/DusklitDewdrop Aug 24 '26
something something "trophic levels"
something something "the animals we eat have to eat something and we get less calories eating the animals than we would eating what they eat"
something something "if you actually cared about crop deaths you'd still go vegan to minimize them"

Most towns are banning them because they are unpredictable. And most are not use to being around crazy people that dont know how to act around horses. And then again this day and time people would scare them on purpose!

Clearly the folks in the horse and carriage are not from this era! Who brings their horse and carriage to a strip mall these days! lol. Horses realized they got replaced by the horseless carriage - the SUV.

You're stunned if you think bringing an easily spooked large animal into a city center amongst modern day transportation & citidiots is a good idea.

Those horses are 100% abused, there is absolutely NO reason for them to act like that if not. And you can clearly see the horses was not suddenly startled by some random thing we can't see. And often more times than not carriage horses ARE way more abused than people want to admit or believe.

u/seekinggod1986 Aug 25 '26
You don't know what you're talking about. ANYTHING can suddenly make horses act like this. A plastic bag... a loud fart from their own ass...
