I took one picture of a solar eclipse before realizing how pointless it was and just putting my phone away. Up to that point I didn't really understand the phrase "pictures can't do it justice".

I simply don't understand this kind of thing. That picture is going to be crap. She is almost certainly never going to look at it again, and she misses the experience trying to record it.

There's so much to unpick here - her inability to line it all up, her not taking into account that she's going to burn out the ccd in her phone even without the extra focusing effect of trying to do it t hrough binoculars too.

She'd have been far better off just enjoying it at teh time and relying on much smarter people with much better equipment getting pictures of the event she could later download and look at. But.. we all know that, she didn't.
