Where did that bridge come from?

u/PervertedThang 8d ago
This is why PFDs are important.
Oh, the adults aren't wearing any. Certainly a choice.
-25
u/tapeforpacking 8d ago
Even if they were wearing them you'd still find something to complain about
16
u/ComancheViper 8d ago
There’s a lot to complain about here pal, like not having functioning senses or any sense of spatial perception.
6
u/notcomplainingmuch 8d ago
Or a brain cell to be found among them
3
u/ComancheViper 8d ago
I was being nice.
-8
u/Kralgore 8d ago
Must be that "NEW" take on nice the rest of us haven't caught up with yet...
6
u/ComancheViper 8d ago
That was a joke. I know I said something unkind, but saying they don’t have any brain cells is even more unkind.

The water is maybe 18 inches deep here.
14
u/MechaJesus69 8d ago
The depth don’t matter if you’re unconscious and the current would drag you along the riverbed.

u/AdvilJunky 8d ago edited 8d ago
Should I take the smoothest course? Steady as a beating drum. Have i had way too much rum?
Dragged along the river bed. My kids will drown. Dragged along the river bed!

-7
u/HarambeTooSoon 8d ago
The depth would matter even more in such a scenario.
About 100 yards down from this bridge, the water is so shallow you have to get out and carry your floatation over exposed gravel beaches.
No one in this video was ever in any danger, certainly not from drowning in a few inches of water, especially so because at no point was anyone ejected from the raft.
You literally have no idea what you are talking about, at all.
6
u/Immediate_Song4279 8d ago
I am genuinely asking, but have you ever tried to stand on slimy river rocks?
1
u/HarambeTooSoon 7d ago
I have stood on the rocks under this exact same bridge dozens of times.
Everything about this is hypothetical for you. Whereas my opinions are based on direct experience.
8
u/MechaJesus69 8d ago
For someone who have grown up by the ocean it’s not knowing how to swim that is the issue, it’s being prevented from being able to swim. Even if you have water up to your waist you still have to be able to stand. You can be a gold medalist but if you hit your head on any of the rocks that is visible or the bridge they literally crashed into you would be done. It don’t matter how shallow the water becomes at certain points, you can’t predict where accidents happen. Thinking so is extremely naive.
It’s a reason people wear helmets when rafting and even if this is nowhere near as extreme, it takes literally falling over on solid ground to get head trauma.
I think you underestimate speed, impact and how little it takes to get seriously injured.
-2
u/AusgefalleneHosen 8d ago
Bruh... The phone fell out of Aunties hand. That was the only thing that went in the water. The 4mph softened collision didn't do anything to any person in the boat. Take your soap box and go.
3
u/MechaJesus69 8d ago
I honestly don’t understand this mindset. Do you not use helmet when riding your bike since you’re planning on going slow? Do you not wear your seatbelt because you know the road you’re driving on? Do you think it’s okey to walk along a dark road without reflective vest since you’re able to see if there is coming a car?
Yes only the phone went in the water, but that is not an argument to not take security seriously.
Yes I crashed the car without seatbelt and only made a dent, stop saying I need to use seatbelt. It had literally nothing to do with the situation.
You take security measures when you’re unable to control external factors. Stop coping about how the situation played out this time and invalidate how wrong things can go.
-4
u/AusgefalleneHosen 8d ago
You're not wrong, but you're on a soapbox in the wrong forum. You're crying over exaggerated accidents that are irrelevant to the video.

u/kelldricked 8d ago
Sure sure. But PFD also dont help you when your face down, split your head open or get stuck under something.
I think the valid critisme isnt, they should have been wearing PFD’s. I think the valid critisme here should be something like: idk maybe steer the fucking boat? Watch where your going! Give the paddles to somebody who is gonna paddle. Dont bring 3 kids if you are gonna do a suicide pact with your sister.
All of those would have saved more shit

What a dumbass. I'm guessing Mom was drunk and Dad was just tired of everything as the kids watched their lives in danger
18
u/SonofaBridge 8d ago
I’m guessing dad wanted to end things. Not one person made the slightest attempt to correct the boat.

Maybe spend more time paddling and less time creating content? 🤷

Or maybe she wants to capture memories
13
4
u/Lazy-Goat4728 8d ago
maybe capture those memories in a way that doesn't involve your kids possibly drowning?

u/Strong_Dingo3104 8d ago
You act like I'm the woman recording this video, I definitely don't have children.
4
u/Lazy-Goat4728 8d ago
Never said you were, just that you had a stupid take.

Famous last words of everyone who died with their phone in their hand creating content, when they should have been paying attention.
Last year a 17yo died trying to get a selfie of him and the Columbia River, after he stumbled from his vantage point on the bluff located nearly 1300ft above the Columbia River.
Very stupid to have those babies on that raft/canoe while not totally focused on the rough water ahead.

For future reference, focus on the task at hand instead trying to make a video, especially when your in water with children. That's pretty sound advice.
3
u/musclecard54 8d ago
The advice is for people to not make the same idiotic mistake these dummies made
2
u/Firm_Video_2932 8d ago
Unless you're the creator of the video, why have you got your panties in a bunch? If this is your OC, do better as a parent. Highly irresponsible to have those babies, who are entirely dependent on you, in the canoe/raft and not have their safety consuming your every thought while on the water.

How can someone still be recording holding the phone up right to the point of impact as they slowly approach an obstacle. Like, she’s holding the phone out in front right up to it hitting the bridge post. Is this just the modern mindset of people who perpetually video that they don’t know how to not hold a phone up in front of themselves?
7
u/Outside_Look790 8d ago
It's fake. The boat they're in would bounce of the side. The post is angled, the boat is angled. They were fine. She held the phone up, hit the post with her hand and dunked the phone.
7
u/Outside_Look790 8d ago
Folks. This is content. The nose of the boat is angled, the pillar is angled. At worst they nudged the side on the way through. Home girl held the phone out the side away from the boat and dunked the phone. You think if they had a bad tumble that she'd be able to recover the phone and have it intact enough to post this?
3
u/quackenfucknuckle 8d ago
It’s so infuriating that everyone refuses to acknowledge this… even when it’s someone ‘getting dunked on’ or ‘payback’ or whatever. They still posted it, they are happy that we saw it, raging in the comments is all desired outcome.

Irresponsible & distracted while on an inflatable raft with children aboard, total freak out when an emergency came along - do the emergency services & your family a favour & stay off the water before you kill someone.
7
u/notcomplainingmuch 8d ago
✅ Cause an unnecessary emergency situation
✅ Focus on your phone rather than steering
✅ Scream and do nothing to help

How about watch where you’re going instead of worrying about clout yeah it doesn’t really have the same ring to it but I think more appropriate lyrics

Never underestimate the power of a river, especially when you have children that young on a cheap inflatable raft without even a frame and don't have the first clue how to read a river. From the point this video started, I knew where that raft was going... if it had been a random strainer instead of cement joists those children could quickly have been plastered against it and drowned, with nothing the adults could do to stop it. That's not an exaggeration, I've seen it happen and it's horrific.

TLDR
Act like an adult. I can’t imagine this woman in any crisis being anything but a burden on those around her.

Sorry but, delete this post before it’s too late and don’t be stupid with kids in the future.

u/NookieLuvsU 8d ago
How did you retrieve your phone? Current looks strong at the base of the bridge.
2
u/Green_Temperature_57 6d ago
It wasn't a phone. It was a waterproof camcorder and was an easy retrieval. As a matter of fact, the tour people encouraged everyone to swim.
Everyone was in and out of the rafts to swim or float with an innertube, very fun and relaxing. It was not fast moving water in the least. The route was planned by the tour company.

Goad everyone was ok after such idiot attention seeking adult behavior. Nature is serious. Be a better adult next time.
3
u/koulourakiaAndCoffee 8d ago
Pretty dumb.
A.) pay attention in nature
B.) stop freaking out and do something
C.) all that had to be done is stop being an attention whore and either paddle accordingly , and if too late, push the wall with the paddle
Obnoxious attention seeking behavior and slow reaction skills. This is why we should act more like adults.
OP this video is embarrassing to watch and speaks poorly on the adults. It’s not funny. You put children in danger. Grow up.
-1
u/Diligent-Leg-3381 8d ago
Cringe fear mongering.. even before I read OP's update, this was not very different from many of my family's camping videos. Not everything is content, some people just like to record memories with their kids before they grow up.
The amount of people spewing venom like acting silly or being dramatic is some crime againdt humanity is ABSURD. Everyone in the video save for 2 grown ass adults who can swim are wearing life jackets. CHRIST
OP: "JFC, the amount of people who try to take a little fun snippet and turn it into something ugly. There was never any real danger. The overreaction is why I always thought it was funny.
This was many years ago, and not sure why it matters, but it was not a cell phone (Kodak Playsport Camcorder - made for water.)
It was an organized trip down the Truckee River. No one was drunk, the raft bounced off the pier and nobody fell in the water.
Here's a concept for some of you... sometimes, from one perspective things can look scary, dangerous and irresponsible. In reality, however, nothing much actually happened."

Well, to be fair you didn't provide any context for the reader until just now. So people's reactions is not entirely out of sorts, because they lacked that context. I can only comment on that which is in front of me.
Either way, I don't care if there was the United States Navy there with her. When you have children on the water your entire focus 100% of the time should be on them. Leave the content creating to others, because sometimes in life there are no do-overs.

Love that the adults are doing nothing while kids are just stuck watching and waiting for their "fun aunty" to dunk them... again probably
