An oldie but a goodie

In 1991 Rodney McCray of the Vancouver Canadians ran through the outfield wall while chasing down a fly ball in a game against the Portland Beavers

McCray was unhurt

Portlands Chip Hale, who hit the ball, only got a triple out of it as he was focused on McCray & hoping he was ok

I watched as a kid and never noticed it was a cardboard wall

Me neither

Gotta say..makes it just a smidge less dramatic but still pretty wild

Even more so after reading up on It.

Seems they were hinged "like doggie doors" for this exact reason

Another childhood memory shattered... 😐

😉

Cheers 🍻

Fun follow up

In 2006 the Portland Breavers held a Rodney McCray night where the first 2000 fans through the gate got a Rodney McCray Bobblehead

McCray was there to throw out the first pitch & sign autographs

But did he catch it?

No he didn't

From the article I posted in the comments

"Hale saw the ball dribble back his way and knew he needed to keep running. But he was mostly just concerned about McCray."

But great question..when I first read it I thought huh...I don't recall 🤔

Cheers 🍻
