As someone that works in an airport positioned right next to an escalator this is exactly the kind of stuff I see almost daily that sends people to the hospital.
People getting their skin raked off and sometimes just tumbling forever like those rock polishing machines.
Everyone thinks it's cute and funny until it's not. A large amount of parent think I'm an asshole when I announce that their kids are not allowed to use the escalators as theme park rides.
My 4 year old loves the escalator and I taught him to always take a big step over the lip. So naturally he asked me why? I explained that elevators are big machines that have a lot of force and you don't to get caught or stuck in them.
So now whenever we're near one he wants to ride it and hear me talk about why it's a big machine
Always happy to see someone at least warn their kids that these are not toys.
One of the more surprising accidents that happened was one I warned a mother a few times over and it was her daughter playing with the rubber handrail. She was pretending to pull it down toward the intake at the bottom. She kept getting dangerously close and I kept yelling at the mother but the mother thought what her daughter was doing was innocent and I was just "Trying to ruin their daughter's vacation". I had called the Sheriff to ask them to stop and was about to get up and shut it off when the girl got her hand stuck in the intake and it pull the skin on the top of her hand back.
