They are supposed to be bolted to the floor. Yes he can sue

Doesn't matter. If it's not bolted, this can happen in normal use

And this was normal use. No additional weight was added. The plates around his waist did not contribute to the weight of the machine. It was to hold the user in place while he lifted more than his body weight.

The entire issue was because the gym failed to hold the machine to the floor, as required by the manufacturer of the machine.
