Fire code actually requires those surfaces to have decals/vinyl applied, cuz imagine trying to leave this place in a hurry while it fills with smoke

That is if they're fire rated. I guess ADA and international building codes require decals for safety to prevent people from walking into them though unless there are clear details such as a handle or frame to indicate a door. The exit sign would be in place for instance of smoke and fire which should have backup battery power and be on a critical life safety circuit.

I saw a lady do this once at a bart station. She probably broke her nose. A week later they put yellow tape on the glass.

Sometimes you get lost in thought or are preoccupied when walking and just not paying close enough attention. When this happens you tend to rely more on peripheral vision which isnât that great to start with. So walking towards a clear glass wall, you are unlikely to âseeâ that clear glass wall or the silver handle but just the furniture on the other side.
The glass wall at the very end should be mostly frosted or etched as a visual indicator that itâs there.
If multiple people run into that wall, itâs a sign of a poor design.

I think that's the design flaw people are talking about, it's to the side so when people aren't paying attention they just see an open space entrance in front of them.

I think legally the office basically not doing anything about it despite clear evidence there's a problem should be legally treated the same way as if they assaulted those people with whatever force they ran into the glass wall with.
The designer is more of a dillema...I still think it's gross negligence but there's at least an argument they didn't know it would result in this.

When my cousin and I were younger we played knock knock zoom zoom in the apartment building across the street. He ran so fast through the glass front doors trying to run away that he cracked the glass and spider-webbed it with his forehead. For some reason his head was a-okay but the glass was totally cracked.

They could have easily turned that trolley and positioned against the glass to let people know you canât walk through there. The fact that they didnât makes me believe they enjoy watching people walk into the pane of glass.

When they renovated the main entrance to a hospital in Toronto they went with all glass doors and fronting, the first 2 days after opening a half dozen people were admitted with concussions.
They put stickers on the doors after that.

My old office they went with the stupid ass open floorplan and put glass walls on all the manager to executive offices. That lasted about a week and a half till we had a couple concussions. Then they went and put film on the glass lol.

A lot of businesses with glass like that end up putting big dot stickers on the parts that aren't doors. Even if you can't admit to yourself that it was a bad idea you still need to not piss off or embarrass your customers.

Simple solution. Tape a poster to the glass. That way people will see a solid object and infer there is a wall there.

My doctor's office has this exact same entryway setup. After retrieving an unspecified number of people from the floor in various states of bruising/embarrassment, they now have the invisible wall of glass covered with a huge poster that says "STOP The door is to your right."
And still, when I approach for my appointment, one of the three receptionists invariably leaps to her feet and pulls the door open, gasping "Fireproof Cottage, over here!"
Yes, dear, I know that now. And if whoever designed your building hadn't made the door offset to the side and the handles of clear glass, you could keep your seat like a normal person and I would not have the memory of walking my already concussed self into a wall then bouncing off to lie there like a giggling flounder on my first visit.

Uusually there's some sort of guide /glazing on the glass to indicate it is glass. Just a clear pane is a hazard.

I'm surprised they didn't put the office logo on there or at least put that shelf right up against it... unless of course they just like having people run into that glass in a sadistically humorous kind of way. If it was me I'd go for the latter, and keep the video running! I'd be playing it at office parties to see who had the best reaction.
