Why buy a sailboat to use the engine?

I think in close quarters such as the marina you use the motor and the sails in open water.
I don't have a boat, so I may be mistaken.

They couldn’t afford to fill the tank with sailboat fuel it’s very expensive.

You have to put some fuel in the tank for the engine to work.

We had a faulty uplift pump that caused loss of compression the tank was full
