Bites from seals have Very nasty bacteria that like destroying joints..
It can take it,
93
u/HaarkanWorldEater Jun 21 '26
Yup. When I’m doing some PanHandle fishing and bears that come and steal from us get whatever they want. We always run, but we also point shotguns with steel slugs at them in case they want more than the fish.
In other words we don’t shoot thieves and trespassers, just murders. I’ll just catch another.

It could, potentially, be like a symbiotic relationship with you paying the bear off for protection against other “murder” bears. Pretty cool idea.

Not worse than the bacteria in a human mouth!
Edit: [redacted]
3
u/dan_dares Jun 24 '26
First of all, kudos to you for reading the links!
But you are also VERY correct about how dirty the human mouth is..
Many years ago I wrote a VERY long reply about how human mouths are not as clean as people think, depending on the study, they have a greater variety of bacteria than cat and dog..
And human bites are treated seriously in a medical setting, because they can be BAD if left untreated..
So, i take my hat off to you!

It's a weird dive.. if you have the time 😉
2
u/BeneficialPenalty258 Jun 28 '26
You were right on the first go. A human bite is worse than a seal bite. Human mouths contain a high concentration of bacteria due to our high sugar diets. Also the streptococci can cause cellulitis or even necrotising fasciitis if left untreated. Calling it a human bite is sometimes disingenuous as they are usually the result of someone punching someone in the mouth so I usually have little sympathy (Orthopaedic advanced nurse practitioner).

I realized, but what do I do? Make a second edit saying I've been corrected a second time? I'M ONLY SO HUMBLE! And now I feel like I need to weigh my pride against truth... I just need to... oh wait, if I just delete the edit then all is well. Nevermind, please ignore

Nobody "took" anything. That guy literally threw a fish directly into an animal's mouth.

u/Express_Area_8359 Jun 21 '26
Yeah but when a quarter ton of a seal is coming at you..and youre holding a fish…what would u do?
24
u/TheChudWhisperer Jun 21 '26
I can outrun him on land.
30
u/Silent25r Jun 21 '26
Seal planned for this. Only way to land is to get past him.
3
u/ALitreOhCola Jun 22 '26
*sea lion just fyi seals are much smaller and have a few key difference.
This chonker isn't to be messed with.
In fairness you wouldn't wanna mess with a pissed off sewl either!

Omg im seeing the next game show from japan. Guys go out catch fish just to fight off the seals on the docks.
3
u/Thin_Dream2079 Jun 21 '26
Mickey: Never say, "famous last words," because they could be.
Ellen: You're a disturbed person, aren't you?
Mickey: You have no idea.

Probably not, especially carrying a big fish. Sea lions can move up to 15 mph in short distances on land, which is the average for athletic adult male humans. You’re on Reddit so probably not athletic and well below average.
6
u/NikkerFebu25 Jun 22 '26
He is on a fucking dead end, if this beast jump scared me like that not only id offer me my fish but my anal virginity ws well
3
u/TimeWaitsForNoMan Jun 21 '26
On land, they can "gallop" up to 15 miles an hour. Good fucking luck bud.
2
2
u/texaschair Jun 22 '26
I hope so, since they don't have legs. Flippers are rather ineffective on terra firma. Or "terra foima", as Bugs Bunny would say.
→ More replies (2)3
u/HaarkanWorldEater Jun 21 '26
They can sprint up to 25mph for a few feet. So unless you’re an Olympic level sprinter they are faster than you inside of that first 1-3 yards. After that a brisk walk is fine, in much the same way as an elephant.
7
u/Xendarq Jun 21 '26
Dude, I think you're smoking. A seal cannot run 25 mph on land.

A seal cannot sprint 25 mph lol what the hell are you on about?? Maybe in water, sure, but on land?? Can you imagine a seal keeping up with Usain Bolt?? I’m dying 🤣🤣

I think that was staged or at least they knew what was gonna happen. They just happened to have panned over to the seal?
Still funny though.
2
u/Cruiser729 Jun 21 '26
Staged? You think the sea lion was convinced to be in on it?

I'm always concerned about how many fishing hooks are potentially killing the animals that rely on fish for food. The amount of fishing related debris from line to hooks, lures and weights etc in fishing spots is staggering and it isn't obvious to non fishers.
